The entries that appear below are notes entered in a Bible available online at the U of VA. Bible entries were transcribed in 1936 (a WPA project). I would appreciate any help in figuring out and documenting how everyone fits in. Census info would be especially helpful in straightening out some of the relationships. Anyone descended from Isham Thrift or from some of the Thrifts in SC, AL, AR, TX, or OK might prove to be closely related to these Thrifts, so please consider helping with the research. And join the Thrift DNA project so we can prove whether or not these conjectures are for real!

Early Dinwiddie County VA records are sparse, burned, so family names and relationships must be gleaned by other means: Bible records, wills, deeds, tax records, and other legal records if they can be found. It's more of a puzzle than the usual research. For instance there were two Colson Tuckers, born within 5 years of each other. It took a circuitous route to find the evidence, but it appears that Colson the son of Robert Tucker is the Colson who died before he was twenty. It appears that all mentions of an adult Colson Tucker must refer to the son of Isaac Tucker.

I have been given some information by a Tucker who has done extensive research in the original documents in Dinwiddie Co & environs. He says that the Tuckers & Thrifts intermarried several times. Below I show the details as described to me, however I was not given specific sources for the information, so for now it is unconfirmed.

Peyton Tucker is the earliest name in these Bible entries. Peyton's lineage, as I understand it, is shown here:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&d...
and what I have for Colson Tucker's descendants is here:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&...
(If you're interested, please ask me for any supporting info I have.)
Peyton is a son of Colson Tucker & Jane Thrift. David Thrift is said to have married Frances Tucker, Colson's sister. I am working on William & Martha's descendants; what I have so far is here:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&...

Colson Tucker's daughter, Martha C. Tucker, is said to have married John Thrift (the household is in 1850 census). Colson's grandson, James Pascall Tucker, is said to have married Ann E. Thrift (AKA Mary Ann Elizabeth Meredith). And it seems *possible* that 3 or 4 of the Thrifts mentioned in the Bible entries below may have been originally children of Peyton Tucker, who after Peyton's death and Harriet's remarriage, may have been adopted by her new husband, William C (for Colson?) Thrift.

***WHO WAS THIS WILLIAM C. THRIFT? Was this his 2nd marriage?***

Thomas Moreland Thrift, born Petersburg 1817, named his son William Colson Thrift. Could Thomas be a son of William C Thrift, perhaps from his first marriage?

(Note the women's surnames as mentioned below are not necessarily their maiden names. This contributes to some of the confusion.)

Entries in ~chronological order:

[I am GUESSING that the first 4 or 5 entries may be children of Peyton Tucker & Harriet unknown. Peyton died, then a few years later Harriet married William C. Thrift. It seems possible that the surviving children, still minors, then took the surname Thrift. However if their descendants' DNA were tested it should match the DNA of the Charles City County line of Tuckers]

Richard B. Thrift was born, October 20th, 1826.
John B. Thrift was born, October 20th, 1827.
Robert G. Thrift was born, October 30, 1830.
Lucy T. Hawkins was born, June 28, 1832 [1850 census shows her living with William H. Hawkins born c 1812; is her maiden or adoptive name Thrift?][Is this the Lucy Thrift Hawkins who married Henry Hawkins, & had son (John Wesley Hawkins born October 5, 1857, Died January 21, 1932) http://ftp.rootsweb.ancestry.com/pub/usgenweb/va/dinwiddie/c...
