Thrap photos and family lines and maybe a web site for Thraps

Between my aunt giving me a big box of photos that belonged to my grandmother, Irene Nellie Thrap Horner, and Mary Lou, I've climbed back out on my Thrap branch and am like a pit bull on a pork chop about it lately. New things have been found and need to be shared!

For those here I've been in touch with before, I've lost all our old emails and the contents thereof. Don't be surprised if I find your inbox and beg to get notes compared and swapped again!

I've got some pics of Grover and Maude from a motel in California, but have no idea as to date or location. I also have a photo of Henry Kirk Thrap taken 22MAY1937 at his home in Haddam, KS, which ought to perk up the ears of quite a few of my cousins around here. I even attached it to prove my bona fides! I have hundreds of other pics to work through of my grandmother's siblings - Evelyn, her twin brother Everton, Ralph and his wife Marty [that's for you MaryLou!] and who knows how many other pics of other cousins and such. Problem is - I need help in identifying people in the pics! Everyone in my family who could tell me about the photo details are now gone, as are the stories of family and I feel like I'm floundering at times.

I'd like to find a common place where these items could be placed, viewed and commented on so we could all get in to the act and share info with each other. Is a myspace or facebook page acceptable to everyone? I know Myfamily is a great site, but it's a fee-based site and it's not exactly cheap. If a Thrap family site were to be set up, I could get it started and we could all upload pics, discuss things, swap stories and gedcoms and the like. I'll do some searching, see what's out there and post findings again very soon.

I can be reached at hornertree@hamilton.net or right here on these here boards.

I found a couple reputable site for hosting, one being myfamily and the other myheritage.

MyFamily is 30 dollars per year and MyHeritage appears to be free, but with some restrictions on storage space and number of names in a single tree.

I'm open to discussion!

Sounds like a great idea.

I have a site at MyFamily.com for one of my other lines. It is $29.95 a year. It is pretty basic but we can post pictures, news, recipe, genealogy files. We don't have all of the backgrounds, colors and space that are available if you pay more.

We haven't used all of our space yet and we have posted a lot of pictures.

Facebook might be a possibility.

I have ancestors in the Thrap family. I just read your idea about a website for Thraps and wonder if it ever became a reality. That would be great!

Please let me know,

Thanks,

Chris

Well.....here it is a year later and the few posts I had in response to the original question gave me the answer. Sorry to say, nothing has become of the idea. I am interested in the Thraps you have in your tree, though, and am willing to share information back. You can find me here or send something to hornertree at hamilton dot net.

I don't see Myrtle in my tree, but that doesn't mean anything. Did Myrtle have another name [first or middle]?

The Myrtle Thrap in my tree is Etta Myrtle (1894-1960).

I'm sure that Myrtle Thrap Boyd is related to our Thrap family but I don't have any information about her. Do you have any idea who her parents were? Any brothers or sisters? Where did she live in Iowa?

I'll keep looking and see if I can find her.

Myrtle's parents were John Franklin Harry (1856-1899) and Lillia R. Thrap (1869-1946). Her maternal grandparents were William E. Thrap and Matilda J. Castle. I believe she had two sisters, but without looking back at my tree I am not 100% positive.
