No, I confuse myself! I just joined the Thornton message board recently. So much information, I need to take notes to keep it all straight!
I have a new topic...Dane Co., WI landowners:
In 1848, Elihu Thornton purchased 80 acres in Section 24, Twp., 8, Dane Co.
In 1852, James S. Thornton was the patentee and James B. Thornton the Warantee for 40 acres Section 28, Twp., 9, Dane Co. Noted on the Land Certificate is, "James B. Thornton private in Capt. Wasson's Co., Col. Mead's Reg., NY Militia, War of 1812." (This would be James Shepeard Thornton and James Bonapart Thornton)
In 1848 and 1851, Oliver Thornton, Samuel Elihugh Thornton's brother pucrshased 80 and 40 acres in Section 22, Twp. 8, Dane Co.
In 1848, Elizabeth Charlotte Thornton, Amy Ann Thornton, Margaret Thornton and Sophia Thornton purchased 155.18 acres of land in Section 3, Twp., 5. Who are these ladies? It is noted that they are tenants in common, not joint tennants. Are they Thornton widows? The Sophia above couldn't be Mrs. James Bonapart Thornton's wife, if she died in 1841.
Act of Congress, approved September 29, 1850. An Act granting bounty land to certain officers & soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the US.
Any comments on all of these Thornton's living in the same county in WI? Another possible connection and still missing the link!
