Miss Bertha May Thornburg, 67, Columbai City, died at the Linville Memorial Hospital, that city at 2:15 am today, where she had been a patient since Sept. 11.
Miss Thornburg was born Dec. 2, 1885, in Windfall, the daughter of John and Katie Thornburg. She spent her childhood near Anderson, IN and had resided in Columbia City for the past 30 years.
She was an instructor in the Columbia City High School having taught Latin, English and speech. She also worked with the debating team for many years.
Miss Thornburg was a member of the Presbyterian Church, that city; the business and Professional Women's Club and Delta Kappa Gamma Literary Club.
The body was taken to the DeMoney and Holliingsworth Funeral Home, there, where friends may call until 11 am Monday when the remains will be taken to the church to lie in state until the hour of the services at 1 pm. Services will be in the charge of the pastor, the Rev. Robert Crosby. Burial will be made in East Maplewood Cemetery, here.
Brief services will be held at the graveside at 4 pm Monday.
Survivors are one brother, Clark Thornburg, Huntington, W. Va., one sister, Mrs. Luther Gregg, Midland, Michigan and a number of cousins in Anderson.
