My 2nd g-grandfather was James Henry Thomson, brother to John Davis and Alexander Brown. He was the preacher and married Nancy McLeod. Their grandson was my grandfather. Harry died when my mother was a baby and so there was little contact with a lot of the Thomson family (except for Harry's brother Clyde).
A couple of questions for you all (if you dont mind):

James Henry and Nancy were not married long before she died. I know they had at least 2 children - Katherine and William Wirt. The census of 1850 show Thomas Henry living with his mother-in-law and a bunch of kids. I cant find any records to indicate specifically how many kids they had - do you know? Was James Henry married to someone else besides Nancy?

William Wirt married Emma Harriet Merkel. Does anyone know anything about Emma? I was told about 35 years ago that her name was Dora Appel but all the records and family trees Ive seen on Ancestry indicate her name was Emma Harriet Merkel. I have nothing else on her or where she came from.
