You know Marcia.....you put an awful lot of stock into what Mathews said. I don't. I've compared many things he said pertaining to Evan's family to first hand sourced information. Based on these comparisons, I don't find Mathews to be a reliable source on Evan Thomas. Here are a couple of examples.

From his book on the William Thomas family from chapter 1 page 1 he said this.....

1.Lewis Thomas and Evan Thomas, both Welshmen, were among the earlier settlers of Hilltown holding lands in the western portion, near Rieff's corner, and eastward of the village of Telford.

First, let's simplify......

1.Evan Thomas, a Welshman, was among the earlier settlers of Hilltown holding lands in the western portion, near Rieff's corner, and eastward of the village of Telford.

This is absolutely false. Evan Thomas Sr. never owned land near Rieff's corner. Nor did any other Thomas until Richard bought it in 1740. Richard bought it from Henry Paxon, who had bought it from Jeremiah Langhorne in 1720. A second tract along the county line bordered it and it too was owned by Jeremiah Langhorne. Langhorne sold this second tract to William Thomas in 1718. At this time Evan Thomas Sr. was buying land three miles away along the Hilltown/New Britain border.

Mathews continues...............

2.Evan's son, Richard, succeeded him and they remained up to the time of the Revolution.

Succeeded him at what? Up until about 1745 Richard was living down in Lower Dublin Twp. By 1740 when Richard bought the land which included Rieff's corner, Evan Sr. wasn't even living in Hilltown Twp. any longer. He was long gone on down into New Britain Twp. So just what did Richard succeed Evan at? Nothing. So where did Mathews come up with this baloney from.

Mathews made those above claims and first hand source information (land records) show he was wrong. I have several more examples of Mathews' errors. Like I said, I don't see him as a reliable source at all. Mathews is second hand information and everything he says pertaining to Evan of importance should be sourced.
