THOBE of Mercer County OHIO
Hello, looking for any infomation on THobe surname that would have lived in Mercer County in 1800's. Trying to find info on a Kunigunde Thobe, who belonged to a church and was a spnser or witness on one of my documents. She is a sponser as is a George Thobe elsewhere. Anyone who has even heard of her please let me know. Thanks. trying to tie her to my Borer , Bohrer line.

Re: THOBE of Mercer County OHIO
Thank you....that clarified one question. I just wonder how George Thobe was connected to my Borer line. Unless, just good friends, as he was a sponser at a baptism, usually that was family. I will watch for THOBE. If you have the St Henry records you are likely better off than I. Do you have any BORER, BOHRER or BORRER listings in the marraiges from 1848-1854? I'm trying to tie a few men together as brothers or father/son. Also as I may have said, trying to figure out the Borer/ Jansen connection as well as the Borer, Thobe connection. I will look to see if I have your surname elsewhere. Thank you again.

Re: THOBE of Mercer County OHIO
Hello..I do believe that is the Kunigunda Thobe/Tobe that I am referring to. Interestingly, you do not state her maiden name. That is what I am trying to find. SHe and possibly George (both) were sponsers for one of my Borer members. They attended St. Henry Church, St Henry Ohio in 1860's and up. I also have a Ludmilla Thobe as a sponser for the sone Jacob Henry Borrer/Borer son of my grgrgrandfather Remigus Borer and Theckla Leifeld Borer.George Thobe (spelled in 1868) was the sponser for Theckla Leifeld Jr, daughter of William Leifeld and Rosa Borer Leifeld (this is the sister of My Remigus Borer.) So, as you can see,...they are very intertwined and it peaks my curiosity. Has for years. Also, your George Thobe was the sponser, along with my Rosa Borer Leifeld for George Joseph Andres in 1872. The Andres and the Borers are Leifelds are intertwined in that, Theckla Leifeld's sister married Henry Andres. SO...see ..your Thobe line is very tied to these poeple. Let me know your thoughts. I am looking to see where the Thobe/Leifeld and Borer lines meet. I believe it is through MARRAIGE and not just neighborly friends. There are other names that tie into my family through baptisms, like Steinlage,Romer, Schmelz, Weiss, Bruns and Lemm. Seems teh Ruempings were in this circle as well. You should write to St. Henry Church, St Henry, Ohio. Mercer County Ohio. Also write to St. John the Baptist, Glandorf, Putnam Ohio. They had records back to at least 1851. Keep me posted. email also, suzif@verizon.net-Suzi

Re: THOBE of Mercer County OHIO
kunigunda maiden name was Koller with an umlet on top of the o. (could possibly be spelt keller, kohler today). our tobe is spelt this way. there are other families arnd here spelt thobe. arnd glandorf oh there is tobe families there that are spelt like ours, but they are from the thobe family. the spelling of the name has been interchanged for years. checking dates is ness. to make sure u have the right person from the right family. i know of no borer, leifeld, or andres names in our tobe tree.....could they possibly be relation of kunigunda? or possibly frnds or neighbors like u said? we have researched our lineage back to the area of germany where they originated. leifeld spelling u mentioned is prob the name lefeld in st henry today. i did get a list of tobe marriages, births & deaths from st henry church records once. i have never contacted st johns in glandorf since those tobes are not ours. they belong to the thobes. my husb is related to the thobes, since his grt grndftr married a thobe from maria stein, oh. the tobes from glandorf are from the minster thobes. i am presently in touch with a tobe from there, who is interested in finding some info about his thobe family. i do have some thgs since i was also doing the thobe family too for my husb sake, and to tell the diff bet the two families. appreciate anythg u think of that might help in this search....u do have an interesting puzzle there. would anyone from st henry church know of ancestoral names in their town arnd 1850 to 1880? what about the liabrary there. they may have old funeral cards, obits and who else lived there when george, kuni, your borers, andres, & leifelds did. many liabraries have all this info on computers now, as do a lot of the church records. just a thougt....i presume u are not local to ck some of this out in person. i can call & ck on some of that if u want.

Re: THOBE of Mercer County OHIO
HI. Wow..I know all the name spellings and variations can be difficult. I am certain that even those old church records mispelled the last names. My Borer was spelled three different ways-=Bohrer, Borer, Borrer and so was Liefled , Leifeld, which you are right could be the Lefeld today. I know that there is a George Thobe on the sponser form but it really could have been Tobe, because on the Celina newsletter I subscribe to from the Mercer County Historical Society, I have seen both spellings. I will watch and see if anything else stands out. I wonder though if Kunigunda Koller could be Borer/Borrer. With a German accent it could sound like that. But..then, I would think that the ministers were German too. Hmmm?

Re: THOBE of Mercer County OHIO
am still up trying to find some of the borers and leifelds u are talking about. was looking at some census records for granville twp in mercer co, ohio but the borers and andres must have moved elsewhere.....is this correct? it looks like the leifelds lived in celina, ohio....jefferson twp, mercer co......is this correct? seems that i have kunigunda ftr name somewhere in my notes, but have to find it first. that might help to clarify where she belongs. give me some time to check this out. that would be grt to see that mercer co newsletter. how do u go about subscribing to it? do u find it to be very helpful with ure research?
