I am Sherry Thaden Tracy and I am looking for Thaden relatives. We've gone back as far as: Gerd Jakobs Thaden married Anna Helena Croon. Their son Herman Eberhardt Thaden married Anna Pauline Deckner. Their son Charles Herman Thaden married Mattie Love Meigs. Their son Herman Meigs Thaden married Angielena Nichols. Their son Charles Herman Thaden married Ruby Blanche Booth (They are my parents). Our line starts in Germany. Some were in Washington, DC, some in Wisconsin, some in Atlanta, GA and some in Jacksonville, FL. I have more info on these people if anyone is interested. I am glad to share what I have.

Hello, Thank you for responding to my query. Would you tell me who the Thaden is that you know about? My father was always told that his family came to America and changed their name from Von Thayden to Thaden. Do you know anything about that? We have a very old letter from a relative describing the castle the Thaden's lived in and how they sold it to come to America. I'm very pleased to hear from you. I would like to know more about your family. I live in Albany, Georgia.

Hello; you wrote about a possible "Changing" of the name; I don´t think so, it doesn`t sound german. Do you know the little village in Schleswig-Holstein, near Lübeck, with the name THADEN? (cause you wrote about a castle).
Bye manfred

Hi Manfred,
I'm going to refer to some things in some old letters. Please let me know if any of this is familar to you.
Letter from Helen H. Thaden:
I was married to Edward Herman Thaden who was the son of Nicholas, who was No. 1 son of Bernard and Marie Thaden who came from Alsace-Lorraine, Germany. Their other sons were Lucien, Charles and Henry - all born in Germany.
In another letter from Helen Thaden she states that she found the parents of Bernard listed in a birth certificate:
In the year 1838 the 21st of February at 2 o'clock A.M. was born here, to the master-baker Jacob Thaden, of his wife Anna Helena Croon, a boy who was baptized on the 12th of March at the house of the parents and named: Heinrich Bernard. This was from Dornum, Germany, dated February 27, 1854.
In a letter written by Doris D. Moore to Mr. Julius Von Thaden:
I remember both Mr. Thaden and his wife talk about the castle in Germany they sold to come here. I understood also that my father in law first saw the girl he married working in a field in Alsace Lorraine. As I understood it he was then in the German army and marching into Alsace Lorraine.
She states that her son has seen a Von Thadden coat of arms but doesn't know where.
She states that she understands the Von was dropped from the name along with one D.
She states that her husband often spoke of Strasbourg and Friedichhafen.
I know all of these people are my relatives and I have them connected. Is any of this familar to you and can you help me go back further? If you are connected I can furnish you with much information after the Thaden's came to the U.S.
Any help will be appreciated.
