I'm looking for all "Thackaberry"s. Little different spelling. Although no relations to me, I'm helping my cousin out. Do you know if their name changed from Thackaberry?
This family lived in Missouri and California earlier this century. Doug

Doug, since I posted that message back in January, FamilyHistory.com has opened up a board especially for the Tackaberrys, and there have been 33 messages posted to it. Take a look at it and see if the information there might tie into the family you are looking for.

Matthew I would love to find out more about Thackaberrys in Ireland. My family settled in Iowa when they came to the States. Not sure where in Ireland they lived but will do some reseach. The name is very unusual here. Seems there are more Tackaberrys.

My mothers maiden name was Thackaberry. They lived in Enniscorthy county Wexford. If this is of any use to you let me know and i'll get more info.

This is a bit of a long shot but hopefully you still look on this site. I am sorry it has taken so long to reply but I was off the net for a while as I had no computer!! My dad is originally from Dublin,Ireland and still has living relatives over there. I would really like to hear about the Thackaberrys in America as I have heard through my dad that some moved there many years ago. Look forward to your reply. Matt

Hopefully you still take a look at this site from time to time and therefore you will get this message. I have had no computer for quite some time and therefore had not seen your reply. My Father is originally from Dublin,Ireland and I am pretty sure that his father was from Wexford. He still has living relatives in Ireland and scattered around England. Please forward me any information at all that you have on your family history. Look forward to your reply. Matt

Hi, Matthew, I was surprised to see an answer to a query I had posted back in 2000 on the Thackaberry board. Since that time a Tackaberry board has been established, and I have confined most of my investigation to people on that board. Actually, most of the Tackaberrys I have met there, descend from families who came to the US about 1850 and later---and we have not yet connected them up to our line. My husband's Tackaberry line descends from two brothers who came to upper New York State in 1805---James and Nathaniel. Thier Mother's name was Elizabeth Middleton, so the name Middleton appears frequently among their descendants. Also, the two brothers each had a dozen or so children, and they were all named with the same names---Robert, Elizabeth, James, Nathaniel, Middleton, etc. It is extremely hard to follow which line is which. I do think their Irish home was in Dublin...but they were not Catholic, but staunch Protestants in Ireland, as well as in New York. Even in the New York cemetery...at Irish Settlement in Pratts's Hollow, New York---some of the names are spelled Tackaberry and some are Tackabury...so I would not be surprised if they also spelled it Thackaberry some place else. Before the family got to Ireland, they were in England. After they settled in the US at New York, the next generation spread all over...some even into Canada. My husband's line went to Illinois...and then to Texas, where we remain today. Does any of this sound right to you? Do any of the names fit with your research? Looking forward to hearing from you in the future.
