Hi! And yes , you're right, this is Cheyanne. As to a family tree, I have a fairly good idea from 1849-1932, but beyond is somewhat sketchy, so I have not attempted a tree here.

I'm sorry, I don't recognize you father's name, but then that doesn't mean much, because there are obviously quite a few Teyechea descendants. I'm happy to share any information, if you have a copy of Modesto's diary of births and deaths then that is a good start. I can provide some of the earlier before that, and a bit of the later (1904-1932).

oh okay cool. My paternal grandfather is Ruben Gallegos Teyechea. I believe he was born Feb 29 1916 but so far all i have been able to find is a navy record from Pearl Harbor. I'm not even sure what his parents or siblings names were...i also believe he is of Basque decent but i'm not sure how many generations back they immigrated...

Your paternal grandfather is of Basque decent, as well as Tarahumar. One of the first immigrants in Mexico was Miguel, a Jesuit missionary who left the church and married a full blooded Tarahumar. His research (linguistic and cultural) is included in several reports at the Smithsonian Institute and his work is also cited in several publications.

What are the names of your grandfather's parents? Modesto, your great-great grandfather married twice and had children with both wives. I may be able to provide you with further information, but without the names it is hard to know which line to follow. There are actually repeats of names over the course of several years between 1881 and 1932. Family members naming there children after other older family members.

Ruben Teyechea was born on Feb. 29, 1916 in California. Most of the records that I have are for Arizona where the family immigrated to from Mexico. Do you know if your grandfather ever went by the name of Henry, or Fred?

After looking at some records, I could be wrong, but I think your great-grandparents may be the following individuals:

Modesto Francisco (went by his middle name) Teyechea born: 5/26/1876 to Modesto Teyechea and Castula Ocana in Mulatos, Sonora, Mx. Died 2/27/1942. He is buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Gila County, Az.

and

Rosario Teyechea (second wife of Francisco, first wife Maria Jesus Ruiz) born 1892. Also from Sonora, but I don't have any specific details. Died 1964.

The easiest way to track is through census records, if you can find your grandfather in a household in 1920 or 1930, you will most likely find his parents and siblings. Search in both California and Arizona databases, as the family moved back and forth. Modesto Francisco was the first of the siblings to go to California (circa 1904), but he returned to Arizona so there is data in both states.

Hi, Anne-This is Doe, Lillian's daughter. MIguel is a dead end. I met the whole Onesimo Tellechea clan- They did not change the spelling. Two brothers: Modesto and Onesimo. both children of Miguel. But I cannot find any records of Miguel leaving the priesthood or the Tarahumara woman...Tried to read records online but the ink is pretty smeared. Do you have any information on Fray Miguel? It is like he disappears in 1831...Do you know where he may have died?
