I am Melissa Texley, I live in Washington State. My Grandparents lived in Lemmon, South Dakota. I have heard that my ancestors originated in Tekslee, Norway? I would be interested to know more.

The Texleys that are in my history came from Teskle Norway. My father Lloyd Texley has been there to Teskle mountain where the t
Teskles still live.

I got the K and S mixed. Teksle is the area of Norway. There is a mountain, lake, and farmsted. A teksle is a farm instrument like a large cutter.

Melissa,
The teksle was a farm instrument. The area all around is agricultural and named for this important impliment. Teksle lake, Teksle mountain are all there. My father has visited there, and I hope to in the future. If you want more, reply.

Your post indicated that your Grandparents lived in Lemmon, S.D. My Grandparents, Sever and Anne Texley, were married in 1919 and and lived in Kadoka, S.D. I've also been told that my ancesters came from
Norway. Tekslee,Norway is new info for me. Look forward to your further reply.

Well I do know that prior to becoming Texley, I believe that the last name was Larsen. And that Texley was only brought into play in order to get on the boat from Norway. Can't verify the accuracy on that. I was only a small child when I heard the stories.

Melissa,

It's interesting to note that my Dad, Verl Texley, told me a similar story that his surname was also changed when his ancesters left Norway but I'm not sure of the reason. Previous name as best as I can recall was "Toxrud".
