Hi

My mother is Antonia Miranda Texidor - she lives in Plymouth, UK. Her father was Jose Manuel Texidor and he lived in Barcelona before meeting my grandmother, Elizabeth Morris. She has a brother Mark Texidor. Jose M. Texidor had a previous wife, by whom he had Pol Texidor who now lives in Barcelona.

My brother has kept the name Texidor (my mother is now long divorced...). He lives in Sydney, Australia with his wife (Dee Texidor) and soon new baby... a new Texibub.

My surname is also fairly rare (Slay) but strangely is also related to the textiles industry.

Somewhere I have the family tree ... back a few stages beyond my grandfather, Jose. I believe my great grandfather was an artist... but that is all i know.

Best regards

HELLO,
I live in Puerto Rico and for a long time now i have wondered about my roots/ancestors. There arent many Texidors in Puerto RIco, it is a VERY uncommon last name. If Anyone has any history about the Texidors, do tell! My grandfathers name is Rafael Texidor and thats all that i know really. The Texidors have lived in Puerto Rico for a while now,..im shocked !! i always thought there where so few of us....but if we communicate well get to know each other and our history (hopefully). Im glad i came here....hope to hear from you all soon. Good bye and thank you.

Edgardo, the story is sad. Most Texidor in PR are of slave ancestry. Only 4 Catalonian (white) males came late 1700's or early 1800's and they married within Catalonian families or came with wives from Spain. (1) Benito Texidor, (2) his son Ygnacio Texidor (they owned land and slaves in Cabo Rojo), (3) Jacinto and his brother (4) Jesus Maria Texidor del Olmo (they owned land and slaves in Guayama). Documentation supports these 4 males and not many more (only a jockey who came from Dom. Republic in early 20th century). All other Texidor not directly descending from these 4 males got their surname upon emancipation when many former slaves adopted the owners names. Certainly there were others fathered by their owners but were never recognized. Sadly, the strategy of most slave owners was to buy young African girls and father children to grow the slave base. Two of the main import ports for slaves was Guayama and Mayagüez.

The white Texidor eventually moved back to Spain, or to Ponce and San Juan. Most black and mulatto Texidor moved from Cabo Rojo to Lajas and Mayagüez and the ones from Guayama to Ponce and surrounding towns. Would be interesting to have a DNA study among white and criollo Texidor descendants.
