Sue,
My family is also from Spain and Ponce. Tho the Texeira name is from my grandfather's side of which we do not know much about him.His name was Justino Cortes Texeira, I do know he had a few siblings, one whose name was Pete, and an uncle they callead El Rey de Monte Grande....but I think that must of been a pet name......I'll try to find more names and dates soon.....I do know the Texeira name is old....going back to the Celts and Hebrews.....probably Druidic as they also shared a portion of their culture..Texeira has some connections to the Yew tree and the coat of arms has a unicorn on it, there may be some connections there to the crusades and the nights templars................that's all for now...take care.... Denise

All the Texeira's i ever knew or heard of came to the new world from Portugal, they mostly settled in Brazil, there are probably thousands between Brazil and Portugal ,very comon name in those two countries,I'm from Ponce Puerto Rico, there is probably a couple of hundred Texeiras here mostly all related in one way or another, their migration from Brazil and portugal occurred in the early18th. century, some came even earlier directly from Portugal via Spain during the 15and16th.century.

My grandmother used to tell me that she had heard others saying that Texeira Surname must have come from Portugal or Goa. According to my grandmothers story, Tippu Sulthan King captured nearly one lakh people from, Goa, Mangalore and near by places and was taking them to Mysore. On the way many were killed while tring to escape, some were lucky escaped on the way to Mysore and few in Coorg,( one was my THE GREAT GRAND FATHER ) At last Tippu Sulthan had only Ten thousand people when he reached Mysore, Srirangapathnam Fort.
If any one can assist me with more details of TEXEIRA family, connections in coorg and India, I will ever gratefull as I am very keen to know about my surname. Bye for now, alice.

The name Texeira comes from Portugal, it is a variant of Teixeira. It is very common in Brazil.Spainand of course Portugal. I was born in Ponce, PR where the majority of the Texeiras in PR live, we are spread all over the US and seem to have a vast number in California and Hawaii. I can be reached on my e-mail,e_texeira@yahoo.com.
