Jacob J. TEWS, wife Anna (LANG) TEWS
I am searching for my TEWS ancestors from Prussia. What I know is my gr-grandfather Jacob J. TEWS,a carpenter, emigrated from Prussia in about 1896/97 with his wife Anna (nee LANG) TEWS and their children, among them my maternal grandmother Lydia Algrepina Anna TEWS (dob Nov 22, 1890, Prussia). Their first recorded address was in 1897 in Detroit MI. Anna TEWS' father was Martin. Lydia married an Afro-American man named Walter Loran BOWLES.They had three children one of whom was mother. Anna TEWS died May 29, 1900 and is buried in Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit. Lydia (TEWS)BOWLES died in July 1927 following the birth of her son. I don't know where Jacob or Lydia were buried. Ther are other TEWS buried in Woodmere Cemetery. I have the names of the other TEWS buried there, altho'I am not sure of their connection to me. Feel free to contact me if we can make a connection.

Re: Jacob J. TEWS, wife Anna (LANG) TEWS
Hello Carol:
I posted that information 10 years ago. It does seem that long ago. Since then I discovered that my gr-gr father Jacob's parents were from Prussia Carl TEWS and Wilhelmina (BARS) TEWS. Carl married two more times, I believe. He had other children -- one was Edward TEWS born about 10 years after Jacob. Edward moved to MI too in the early 1900s I believe around 1914. He settled in Gladwin Co MI where Jacob eventually moved to from Detroit in 1913 and opened a grist mill.Edward had 8 children. Edward's wife Caroline left the family when the kids were young and Jacob and his second wife Carrie (Krigner)TEWS took in some of those children for a period of time. Since my 2001 post, I have been able to contact the children of two of Edward's children (Elmer TEWS and Elsie) who Jacob took care of. They did not know of my family nor did I know of theirs. The did not know they had a great great uncle Jacob who had three children - one of them Lydia (my maternal gr-mother) who married an African American man. We have been delighted to meet each other. Through that connection, and finally getting Jacob's naturalization record, I found that Jacob was born in Prussia in 1865 and had emigrated to Russia with his parents at some point. He married his first wife Anna Lange in Russia and bore my grandmother Lydia there on Nov. 22, 1890. They emigrated to Detroit in around 1891. I found out through Edwards relatives that the family had settled from Prussia to the Ukraine. I have since discovered my gr mother Lydia is buried with her mother Anna Lange in Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit. Jacob Tews is buried with his son Samuel TEWS in Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia. Lydia died in 1927 in Detroit; Jacob in 1940; his first wife Anna in 1900 in Detroit; and Samuel in 1944; Samuel's brother Arthur died in 1933 in Gladwin Co.
That,s the basis information. Would like to know whether any of it rings familiar with your family information.
