Re: Heinrich Christoph Tewes
This family has been an interesting detour on my family tree. Its the name I've gone by my entire life (along with my brother, father and of course Mom) but have found out this was another story that came to pass to save face. This family branch is in Milwaukee Wisconsin and the source of the name was Ben Tewes who was supposed to have adopted my father during a brief marriage to my grandmother, but this doesn't appear to be what happened.

Re: Heinrich Christoph Tewes
This branch all appears to be North Central Kansas Lutherans, but how they got to Kansas is not known by me. They may have come from Wisconsi, but they came to the US from Hanover, Germany. Heinrich was born in 1869, and married the grandmother of my wife in 1892. She was at that time a widow, with a child.

Re: Heinrich Christoph Tewes
I believe Ben Tewes was my grandfather. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Heinrich Christoph Tewes
As with all things in my family, the details are murky. My maternal grandmother, Mabel Pooler (maiden name) had previously married Mivert Rowell (my dad's real father) then someone named Hermann, and on 12/9/1931 she married Ben H. Tewes Jr. (his father is Ben H. Tewes Sr. and they are from Indiana. At this point, Ben and Mabel are living near each other in West Allis, a south suburb of Milwaukee. I have a copy of the marriage certificate and the divorce notice is published in the Waukesha Freeman a few years later as Mabel had a penchant for running off with his money and going to Chicago. On the certificate, he is listed as a Fireman. Ben's mother's maiden name is Marie Lehman. At the time of the marriage, Ben is 31 and Mabel 29. My dad claimed he was adopted by Ben but that seems a bit iffy. Dad was 13 at this point. He does list Ben as his father on the SS application in 1936. But he also lists his mother's maiden name as Mabel Pittlekow (another family name on Mabel's mother's side). Gr. Grandma married a number of times also.
I believe Ben remarried after Mabel and he divorced. She married a 4th time to a man she knew from Sheboygan where she was from. They ended up in California, returning to Wisconsin when my dad had to put them into a nursing home. She lived into her 90s.
Ben finally had it in the mid 30s and filed for divorce on grounds of desertion and taking his money. I find him (Ben) listed as both Ben and Bernard. The dates of birth and middle initial seem to match up.

Re: Heinrich Christoph Tewes
I took the liberty of looking at your Tewes tree and I'm not sure there is a connection. Your branch seems to be from OH and unless they made it to Indiana and Wisconsin, while the Tewes spelling isn't common, I am not sure there is a connection unless the family was spread out a bit.

Re: Heinrich Christoph Tewes
Nuts, I was hoping there was some connection. My grandfather was born in Covington, KY. Thanks for the speedy reply.
