Re: Flonnie? Indians/Tewell
Can I get some more info.? It's a longshot by have heard Blackfoot in my family in that area and the names Nellie, Alice, and Docie (Doshia) are included. Did Docie/Doshia have a child named Estol and was Nellie's maiden name Lagg or Barker and she married a Grant Smith in Lee Co. or Harlan Co.?
Thanks.

Re: Flonnie? Indians/Tewell
After much research, we have found that there is no relations in our family to Indians. We have determined that Sophronia was not an Indian, and had no relationship with the Indians. To our knowledge, she did have several children, but was never married. The previous information on her is incorrect. Our line was located in Smyth and Washington Co. VA and never left the area.

Re: Flonnie? Indians/Tewell
This must be a different branch of Tewells than I know. I do not recognize these names. I did see a long list of about 200 Sioux names. Most of them were in the Sioux language. Many were Indian names in English like, "Hero" "He who kills white men" "Afraid of his Horses" and so on. (The list if I remember correctly was called American Aboriginal Names. It was associated with some historical outfit.) Anyway, right in the middle of all these names, was the name "Tewell" which I found interesting and hard to explain if there is no family connection. John Tewell

Re: Tewell Blackfoot Indians
My great great grandfather or great great grandfather was married to an Indian woman. I believe that he settled in Pennsylvania after coming over from Ireland. The name Tewell, as the story goes, used to be O'Toole, changed due to the discrimination against the Irish coming over here. That is not confirmed.

Re: Flonnie? Indians/Tewell
I was always told that my great great grandmother was Cherokee..I remember at a family reunion at Coopers Rock in Maryland, I believe, an elderly Aunt referring to that. My great grandfather's name was Tom Tewell..And I have an Uncle Jimmy, no doubt James
