Teves name

My name is Glenn Teves, and I live in Hawaii. My great grandfather was Jose Teves and came from Rabo de Piexe in the Azores in the late 1800's. He was one of the only ones on the boat who could speak and read English. This says something about their origins. My grandfather is Antone Tavares Teves and was born in Honoka'a, Hawaii. He had about 10 brothers and sisters, if I recall right. I think Tavares and Teves are two family names, probably a marriage of two prominent families to retain the names. I've heard of many of these origins including Flanders, France, Spain and Portugal, and also Sephardic Jew origin. We have to look at the connections to these areas. Some were moved between these areas due to the politics of the time. I have some cousins who have done extensive research on the family name, one on Oahu and another in Washington DC, and my information is based mostly on their work as well as a little of my own. The Kauai and Hawaii, and probably most of the Oahu Teves family are related. I think the original immigrants were first cousins who went to Kauai, Oahu, and Hawaii. I think there's one Teves family around Kurtistown, Hawaii on the Big Island that's not related to us. Hope this helps.

Hey Glenn.

I have a lot of Teves in my family that immigrated from the Azores to Hawaii. My Teves are from the town on San Jose on St Michael.

I have heard that the Teves were from France and I have spoken to a women who has a distance ancestor Teves from France, a captain I believe. A lot of the Teves might have been Mariners.
