Teufel from Gottelfingen & Diessen, Germany
Searching for descendants of the name Teufel from Gottelfingen & Diessen, which are now part of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. My ancestor Johann Teufel was born in Diessen 2 May 1808 to Johann Teufel & Rosa Wehle. He immigrated to America in 1836, settling in Cambria County, PA, where he married Elizabeth Kirn, daughter of Martin Kirn & Kunegunde Soell.

Re: Teufel from Gottelfingen & Diessen, Germany
Peggy I hope this message still finds you. You may already know this but the Rosa Wehle who married Johann Teufel was not born in Diessen, Hohenzollern, but in nearby Gruenmettstetten, Wuerttemberg, just across the Neckar River. Her parents were Hans Ulrich Wehle (b.1748 in Gruenmettstetten) and Anna Dettling. Rosa is a descendant of one of that village's earliest known residents Caspar Wehelin who was born about 1535. My Lutz's are from the same village and there are a number of marriages between the two families over the centuries. If interested, you might find more about your Gruenmettstetten Wehle's at the Mormon website "familysearch.org".

Thank you so much for your reply. I did come to know that Rosa was born in Gruenmettstetten and learned her parents' names, but thank you so much for the additional info. I'll look through my Wehle list to see if I can find any Lutzs.
Thanks again!

Re: Teufel from Gottelfingen & Diessen, Germany
I don't know if you are still working on this, but my GG father Gustav Teufel was born in Ulm,Baden-Wurttemburg, Germany in 1864, and emigrated to Portland, OR in 1887. I am working to find relatives in Germany - could be a link? Thanks.

Re: Teufel from Gottelfingen & Diessen, Germany
My gg-grandmother is named Mary Anne M Diefel born in Wurttemburg...I've heard someone say they think some may have changed their name once arriving in the US from Teufel to Diefel. Just trying to cover all bases. I can't seem to find anything on her. I know she had live in Oregon for some time and moved on to Mississippi.
