I think that I can help you. Our family records say that Dr Henry Teters, of Morgan Co. Ohio, was a grandson of Samuel Dieter, Pennsylvania, and his second wife. Samuel was supposed to be Revolutionary War soldier and had a nice piece of land in Pennsylvania that was reward for some kind of service that he had done for the cause. ( It's a family ledgend that he was a Prussian soldier, a Hun, and served under Washington when he was with the Brittish. When Washington switched sides, Samuel came with him as one of his personal servants or valee...) The name change happened when Samuel died and left the family estate to the children of his 2nd marriage and nothing to the children of his first marriage. Except for his favorite granddaughter...she received a cow. The older children were offended and feeling slighted by their father, they split up the family, each went a different direction on the map and changed the spelling of each branch of the Deter Family. Teters, Teeters, Deeters, Teaters, and so on.... Several of them came to Ohio and many moved on out west and some came back again. My great grandmother, Etta Editha Teeters-Smith, grew up in her fathers home in Morgan County, Ohio, with her paternal grandfather, Dr. Henry Teeter, living with them in his last years. Dr. Henry Teeter was a well respected man in his time, and he relayed the story to his children and grandchildren. I have written records and a copy of the Will that caused all this trouble, if that may help you too...

Why yes, I have had some trouble in tracing my Smiths. There seems be no problems with our abilities to procreate though, lol. I am trying to gather the decendants of the Smith/Smythe's of Ohio and Pennsylvania, no easy task. I will try to find records on the specific Deter/Teeters that went to N.C. and Virgina for you. Wish me luck...LOL.

I only have the children of our Henry (Samuel) TETER/DETER (b.1765 in Germany) for the Philadelphia area in about 1801, and no William Jasper TEETER, sorry. (Henry TETER/DETER's family moved to Ohio around 1820's, a few moved back to Pennsylvania again, & some went on west...). I do not have any info on Henry (Samuel) TETER's parents or siblings, although he said that he came from Prussia. Maybe your William had a simular connection, maybe Germany or some other spelling; we have some TETER(S) listed as Deter, Teeter, Teater... all from one family fued, LOL.

Great story about the will! :)
Does anyone have a George Teter(s) that sprung out of this mess?
Born 1801 in PA. Married Sarah Fowler, about the same age, also born in PA. They moved to Ohio in the 1820's. They settled in Richland county, and then Carroll County. I haven't found any relatives in Morgan county yet.

I come from a long line of the Teeter family going back to John George (Jon Jorge) Teeter or Dieter, born about 1710 in the Palantine (Germany) who married Maria Margueretta Luttman, born about 1714 in Germany. I have quite a bit of information about their descendants. My direct line settled in Virginia, Kentucky, and eventually Indiana and Missouri. My direct ancestors are John George Teeter (b. 1730 Virginia, son of John George), William Teeter (b. 1776/1778 Virginia), Robert Teeter (b. 1806 Kentucky), Ransom Alonzo Teeter (b. 1855 Indiana), Edgar Alonzo Teeter (b. 1891 Missouri, my grandfather).

My grandfather was pretty emphatic that his name was spelled with “ee” so he wouldn’t get confused with other lines. However, I have traced roots back to many other spellings of the name, as we all know. I have some info on the following born in Ohio and PA. These individuals may or may not be part of my direct line since I don’t have information linking them back any father than the parents listed below. I’d like to make a family connection with you, if possible.

I don't know who was looking for William Jaspers Teeter but I have the following information:

William Jasper Teeter b) 14 Apr 1835 in Montgomery Co., Indiana, d) 25 Jun 1918 possibly in Call, White Co., Indiana. He was the son of Robert Teeter, b) 1806 Garrard Co., Kentucky and Harriet Ramey, b) 806 Garrard Co., Kentucky . Harriet was Robert Teeter’s first wife. I descend from Robert Teeter and his second wife, Margaret Hixson.

William Jasper Teeter married Martha Ann Quick, b) 20 Jun 1836. They married 19 Apr 1855 in West Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., Indiana. I do not have record of children for them. I do have info on William Jaspers siblings if you are interested and the ancestors of his father Robert Teeter.

Tina,

The majority of the descendants of John George Teter/Teeter/Dieter used the TETER spelling. I descend from George TETER, Jr. who married Anna Mary Margaret HINKLE. Three of George's siblings (Paul, Barbara and Philip) married three of Anna Mary Margaret's siblings (Rebecca, Jacob and Susannah). They were the children of Johan Justus (John Justus) "Yost" HINKLE (original spelling HENCKEL) and Margrita Maria Magdeline ESCHMAN.

Although many on-line family trees shows Samuel Gibson TETER (who married Mary DODDRIDGE) as one of the children of the TETER/LUTTMAN marriage, he was not included in the will of Johann Georg.
