Teter, Teator, Teater, Dieter researchers
Hi, I am an descendent of one of the two John George Dieters who lived in the VA, MD, WVA area back in the 1720's. I belong to John George Dieter known as Opequon John George, and the other John George married Margaret Luttman. I am aware that there is much confusion surrounding these two men.Since so much misinformation is floating out there, just wanted to give you all aheads up to research carefully. If you are interested in looking at the hard scientific data surrounding those 2 John George's, we do have a free group on Ancestry and we would love to have you join us. Here, you can clearly see that there are even more Teter trees involved, as the dna will show. Please email me with you address, and I will send you an invite. NEGramma@aol.com. I think you can also go directly to the group and ask to join. Check out under the dna dropdown, and this is where I get lost as to how to get there, but I assume you can search for Teater, Teter, Teator and it should show up. Love to meet all my new cousins! Carol

Re: Teter, Teator, Teater, Dieter researchers
No, I'm sorry I don't know the father to Opequon John George Dieter/Teter, nor whether he had a brother Sabastian. Tell me more about Sabastian, and are you from Sabastian's line? Would be nice to find a brother to our JG Dieter. We believe our JG came over on the Ship Allen in 1729. His spouse's name is unknown, but have found baptism records of a few of his children...John, and Margaret, but none on their possible brother, Samuel Teter (my 5th greatgrandfather). The Y-dna does match though.

Re: Teter, Teator, Teater, Dieter researchers
Hi Carol. Thanks for your response. I know there are several Georg Teters out there, and the one I'm looking for does NOT seem to be the one who settled in the Robinson River area in VA. My Georg and his brother Sebastian were from Schwaigern (as was the Robinson River Georg). But their father was Matthaus/Matthes. (Robinson River Georg's father was Michael.) There was a third, younger brother also named Mattheus, who seems to have stayed behind in Schwaigern. I'm not sure when my Georg came to America, but it was pre-1739. Sebastian, wife, and 3 kids sailed in 1738 and were shipwrecked along the way. I do not know if Georg was with them. I'm trying to find out more about that entire family and where they settled. I thought it might be Opequon, but I have no proof. Incidentally, Sebastian, wife, kids were all dead by 1744/45. Don't know the cause.

Re: Teter, Teator, Teater, Dieter researchers
Jill, are you interested in joining our Teater/Teter/Dieter group. Our admin. has posted many Y-dna results, and possibly you could connect with one of the branches that are listed. The Y-dna results are definitely showing the John George Dieter and Margaret Luttman are not the same family as JG-my branch. It sounds like the Luttman/Dieter family settled on the north branch of the Robinson and my line settled on the south side! Did Sebastian and his family die at sea? It doesn't sound like it. Where did they settle if they made it to America?

Re: Teter, Teator, Teater, Dieter researchers
Hi Carol, I am not actually related to the Dieter/Teter family. I am researching the shipwreck that Sebastian and family were on. His family is one of only 4 that I have identified as passengers. (No passenger list exists.) I have a letter written in Nov. 1739 that mentions Sebastian and the wreck, and it says that he had a brother Georg (Jerg) Dieter (from Schwaigern) who lived about 25 miles from Germantown, PA. I don't know if the letter writer was using English miles or German miles, though! Or whether Georg and Sebastian moved farther away after the letter was written. It is a mystery that I have been trying to untangle for several years now. I would be interested to know what info. you have on your Georg. It would be great if we were talking about the same person!

Re: Teter, Teator, Teater, Dieter researchers
Jill, I copied/pasted your query below and sent to my cousin, Sue to see if she knows about Sebastian. She may be able to help us. Strange, but my John George died about this same time, or researchers are thinking so as they have found documentation about daughter Margaret and indenture papers around this early 1743/1744 time frame. Don't have the exact years, and I believe it was in Frederick County, WVA. You know, this is what they are basing a death date for John George, but could the debt have been for Sebastian and his family?
