Surnames: Teter, Ketterman
It appears that after Samuel Teter died about 1855, his wife Sidney had two more children-- Benjamin Y.S. (born about 1860) and Sidney (born about 1863). So who was the father?
I have some suspicion that it was a distint relative of mine, Cornelius Ketterman.

Cornelius was widowed in 1859. Apparently he left his two small children with his parents (Daniel and Barbara Alt Ketterman) and hired out at the nearby McDonald farm. The 1860 census show Sidney Teter and her family living very close by.

Cornelius enlisted in the Confederate Army at the start of the Civil War, but deserted after a year and came home. Then in 1863 he changed to the Union side and joined the "Swamp Dragons," a violent Home Guard unit. In fall 1863 the Confederate army captured him near Circleville. Cornelius was was court-martialed for desertion and executed by firing squad in March 1864.

Ketterman family lore, however, suggests that at least part of the reason for Cornelius' situation was his desire to see his fiancee, Sydney Wimer Teter. One source (Luther Ketterman's genealogy) actually lists her by name. Unfortunately I cannot determine exactly how it all fits together, but I'm guessing that shortly after Cornelius was captured by the Confederates in 1863, he tried to escape but was caught. The escape attempt, coupled with the fact that he'd changed sides and was now fighting for the enemy, pretty much sealed Cornelius' fate.

I have looked for the marriage records of Benjamin YS. Teter and Sydney Teter to see if they list their parents' names. Unfortunately I have come up empty.

If you have any information as to the father of Benjamin YS Teter and/or his sister Sidney, I would love to know about it...

Sidney Teter was my great grandmother. She was married to William A. Miles Thompson. I have heard from a relative in my family that the father of Sidney Catherine Teter Thompson, daughter of Sidney Wimer Teter was Solomon Hedrick, her son-in-law, husband of her daughter, Mahala. This could be correct or incorrect but got info from family member before he died.
