I am researching the TETENBAUM (TETTENBAUM, TETINBAUM, TETENBAWM, etc) family, and would love to share information with anyone who might be doing the same. I have traced roots back to the mid 1800s in Poland, but am very interested to find new members of this family. Please be in touch by email!

My name is Sam Berry, grandson of Haim Laibl Beris, coppersmith, of Szczuczyn. I discovered your message re Tetenbaum by accident while researching the name Beris. All I know about my grandfather is that he had 16 children and lived in the Krumeh Gasse.
I realize that this information is very old since my father, Abe Berry, came to the United States in 1904, and has been dead a long time. I am 87 years old.
I had an uncle, Chatskel Beris, coppersmith, who was killed by the Poles during World War II.
I wonder if we are related since we have the same family name from the same shtetl. Anything you can tell me about
Szczuczyn and the name Beris would be appreciated.

My name is Sam Beris (68 yrs), the son of Haim "Zedkeh" Beris a baker from Sczuczyn(also The Krummeh gass we think) who was married to Devora "Devercheh" Tettenbaum.I have a brother Jack Philip(72 yrs) (Yankel Faivel) and a sister Leah (Lejkeh) (77yrs). I am named after my grandfather Shmuel who had 3 children (Haim, Hanna Reizel and Itcha (Yitshak). My family moved from Poland to Melbourne Australia in 1938 and I am the only one born there. My father's sister married Haim Pickel from Graewo (next village on thePrussian border where the railway station was) and moved to Israel in 1934. Two sons are Israel and Eliezer Pickel.A brother Itcha moved to Argentina in 1937 and had three children all whom have passed away. My brother and I live in Israel 40+ years and number about 30 between us (including inlaws and grandkids) while my sister is in Melbourne.
According to the family names and place origin we could be related.
Write back and we can exchange more information.

Hello Sam Beris. Since we have the same family name and
our families came from the same town, I am fairly sure that
we are related, although probably separated by a few generations.
My grandfather, Haim Laibl, a coppersmith, had 16 children
and my father was the youngest. I am 89 years old. I do not
know how many brothers Haim Laibl had. I heard of one, whose name I do not recall, but it was not your grandfather.
Therefore, based on our ages, I would assume that, if we are
related through a sibling of Haim Laibl, it would be your great grandfather.
A distant cousin, Linda Berris of Chicago. has done quite
a bit of research on the family in Sczcuzyn and she might
have the family connection. Her email address is:
lsberris@gmail.com.
There are a number of descendents of Haim Laibl in Israel
but because of name changes, I can not give you any
information, except that one of them was an Ambassador to Egypt. Then there is one in Israel with whom I am in
touch by email, whose husband's father came from
Sczcuzyn. Their family name is now Yigdal and you can
contact them by email at Yigdal2@Bezeqint.net.
You can contact me directly at sberryberry@aol.com.
