Surnames: TESSIER, de LONGPRE
David Tessier de Villauchamps.

Family tradition as it was known before 1900.

"Descendant d'une ancienne Maison francaise fixee en
Hollande, vint en Amerique au commencement du 18eme siecle,
a la suite du Prince d'ORANGE. Il avait fait un marriage qui deplaisait a sa famille, ce qui le porta a se fixer en Amerique, David et la Capitaine de Longpre etaient parmi
les officiers francais qui vinrent en 1769 occuper la Louisiane. Il portait le titre de Marquis qui, en Amerique,
fut abandonne par la famille."

This above was provided to my grandmother Rogerson, nee
Kathryn Tessier, by Isabelle de Laurencin Beaufort of Provence who's grandmother was Eulalie Tessier.

Why was France occupying Louisiana in 1769. Can anyone
direct me to reference to de Longpre and his group?

Is there a known connection to the Tessiers of Canada?
Did the de Longpre occupiers depart from Canada?

I would very much appreciate any clues that might be offered as to how to understand more than family understandings provide.

Many thanks for your patience in reading this.

Sincerely -

Peter Parrish in Richmond, Virginia

Hi Mr. Parrish, My father is a Tessier from Baton Rouge, Louisana. He had 6 brothers and 1 sister, They had an Aunt Eulalie. Actually there were a few Eulalie's. I think I have a copy of an old painting of Eulalie Tessier. I have been working on my dad's Tessier lineage for about 3 years. I recently finished a 100 page scrapbook for him. I found many old photos, from relatives, Baptismal records, church records and marriage records to name a few. i am working on information about judge Charles R. Tessier of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He died in 1852 or 1853. I have the succession of his property at death and it lists his slaves. Nobody knows where he is buried. He was married 2 times, once to Catherine Clein and then supposidly upon her death he married her sister Lydia Clein. It seems it is hard to locate their info. What type of info do you have on David Tessier DeVillauchamps? He I think is the brother to the Charles Tessier of Baton Rouge that married a jewish girl Eleonre Monsanto from the island of Santo Domingo. I think I have some New Orleans census records showing David and brother Charles. Please email me at samcwheeler@yahoo.com Thanks.

Hello:
My name is Keith L. T. Holstead and my mother is Claire Tessier de Villauchamps Holstead. David Tessier and the Capitain of Longpre were amongst the first French officers to occupy Louisiana in 1769. He had the title of Marquis, which was later abandoned by the family. My grandfather was Paul Harris Tessier, brother of Charles Andrew Tessier, sons of Charles Andre. I am very proud of our illustrious family and just Googled the last name, and up this popped!
My email is holsteadkeith@gmail.com if you wish to reply. We can compare notes if you like. Best Wishes, KLTH And yes, from what I understand, there is a connection to the Canadian Tessiers where the actor Robert Tessier comes from, i.e. "The Deep", "The Last of the Mohicans" etc.

I am trying to connect the de Villauchamps and Charles de bertier. We have a portrait of a Charles de Bertier that has passed down through the Tessier family of New Orleans, La. relatives of Pierre Tessier who immigrated to La. from Holland. Do you have any research that would include the link?
