Leon Tessier Catherine Robidou

Elise Bonnette  (View posts) Posted: 3 Nov 1999 11:03AM GMT
I've just discovered this forum. Maybe someone has the information I am looking for.
My ggrandmother, Adeline Tessier, was married in Feb. 1870, at age 18, in Ormstown, Quebec,
to Onesime Marchand.
Her parents were Leon Tessier and Catherine Robidou.
Other children of Leon Catherine were married in that area between 1854 and 1870.
I am unable to find any definite information about Leon Tessier and his wife Catherine Robidou.
There is just a handwritten note in the Drouin books (available in genealogical societies in
Quebec) saying they were married "around 1830" - no place given. This would suggest they
were married outside the province of Quebec - the US? or Ontario?
Leon's parents are given as François Tessier and Marie-Anne Alarie (Halary. This would
connect him to the Urbain Tessier-Lavigne line.
Thanks in advance for any clue.

I would suggest checking records at St. Patrick parish, Hogansburg, NY. or St. Regis My g.grandfather, Peter Robidou's brother sister, Christopher Catherine were born there in 1828 and 1826. Their mother was Francoise Tessier and father was Pierre R. Never found Peter's bapt., but on some records appears to have been born before the marriage date of 1 Aug 1825. Bapt may be listed under Tessier if a "natural" child. Pierre, his father, died at Ormstown 13 June 1849. Pierre 2nd wife (m.1832) was Angelique Hurteau. Peter's wife was Sophia Hurteau b. at St-Martine, Que. Francoise Tessier's parents were Francois Xavier and Charlotte Mainville. Martin

Thank you Martin,
I got your message just as I was going to Montreal
for genealogical research at the "Salle Gagnon" of
the Montreal City Library. They have 3 registers for
St. Regis, but only one of them was available on that
day. I found a couple of entries under the names of
Robidou and Tessier (written as Tecier and Lecier)
but nothing on Leon Tessier and Catherine Robidou(x).
I thank you for the tip however. I'll keep on searching
in that area.

I, too, am searching for the elusive Leon.
I trace my lineage to him through the following line:
* Alexandre Tessier (b. circa 1828?) Judith Saumier
* Napoleon Tessier (b.1855-d.1918) Josephine Bonneville (b.1857-d.1934)
* Romeo Tessier (b.1898-d.1977) Mabel Provost (b.1899-d.1966)
* Randolph (b.1933) Eileen Baker (b.1930-d.2000)
* Marc Tessier (b.1963) Mary Malcomson (b.1971)
From my research, Alexandre's family lived in St. Anicet,Quebec.
Napoleon subsequently moved the family to Cornwall, Ontario.

Should you have any leads on our Leon Catherine, I would be very interested.
I will also keep you in mind should I track them down.

I am interested in Jean-Baptiste Leon Tessier. He and Catherine Robidoux were my gggrand-parents.
Their daughter Adeline married my ggrand father, Onesime Marchand.
Could you tell me more about Jean-Baptiste Leon Tessier?
When & where was he born?
It seems, from the dates of birth mentioned in your reply, that all of Jean-Baptiste & Catherine's children were born before their parents' marriage. Is that correct?
Also, have you heard of any "Indian" connection? There is a family rumour that Adeline was Indian.
Any additional information would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
