Re: Pertusio, Italy > IL Terando families
Hello I am a relative of the Terando family of Spring Valley. My great-grandfather was Stephen (went by Steve though) Joseph Terando. I was actually named after him. He was born on March 27, 1901. He worked on the rail road and settled in New Lenox, Illinois where all of our family is today. I know he was the oldest son of Joseph Terando and Dominnica Gravetti (I am not sure if I spelled that right). I know his brothers where Ernie, Marco, Joseph, Barney, and Frank. His sisters names where Leona, Angie, Annie, and Leanora. I think I had heard from my grandmother that there was a baby boy that died not long after being born. I have only been to Spring Valley once and that was for the annual family reunion. That's when I was about 10 years old so it has been close to ten years since that. I have not really dug into this part of my family tree. But hope to do so in the future. May I ask how you fall into the Terando family? Looking forward to hearing from you. Steven Wright. My e-mail address is chidsey_weil@yahoo.com

Re: Pertusio, Italy > IL Terando families
I am married to Jeffrey Tarrand. His father Alex Terando changed his name to Tarrand as an adult. Alex was married to Rose, but i do not know Alex's father's first name. He died in Illinois between 1914 and 1920. Alex had 2 sons - Dix, born 1951, and Jeffrey, born 1953. Dix has one son, Alex, born 1982. Jeffrey has 3 kids - Jessica, born 1983; Christopher, born 1993; and Ariel, born 1999. I would look forword to hearing from any other Terando's. Also the name change adds info to the family tree. Nancy

Re: Pertusio, Italy > IL Terando families
Coinsidence or one in the same: In response to Pertusio,Italy & Stephen Wright my grandfather was also Joseph Terando from Spring Valley,Il. Leon middle name, born 1897. I always assumed that was his blood surname but he had a step dad named Frank from what I recall that worked locks & dams or some type of waterway job. Looking on the atlas and not knowing the area doesnt look like much need for locks and dams. Seems my grandfather had a brother named Frank also and they never spoke to each other again from late teens or early twenties on, always wanted to know the mystery behind that(it was hush hush). But from what I rem. gramps was under ten y/o and helped him (step father) at his job. Grandpa Joe went to Chicago and worked for Westinghouse and/or GE I think making clocks. Ended up in Southern Illinois for Zeigler Coal 1917 or 1918. Zeigler,Il was/soon became the largest producer in the world. He went on to become head electrician of Zeigler Coal for years until about the 4th mine was built and retired in 1968 at/around 70 years old with over 50 years of service to that company. A great man/grandfather reserved, quiet, & well liked and respected. He passed in 1992, 94 years old, I still miss him. He married Katherine Van Schaick(Ive seen 2 spellings)she passed 1957 at 54y/o of a brain clot/aner.
My oldest niece has organized hundreds of photos from that era and area. One of my cousins was doing a family tree prob. 10-12 year ago but havent talked to her since, sad but true, but I had recently spent time looking her up on the I-net shes from Winter Haven,FL(Ill find her). My mother passed away in '91 and weve missed placed or lost connections and my brother has no idea. Would love to co-ordinate things with you folks if we're related or not(thats ok too). Always wanted to know the Italy connection and how many generations back since immigration & beyond. Suppose Ill get on the stick next week and hunt down my niece and cousin. Hope to hear from the Pertusio's or Mr. Wright soon. About all I know for now I only have a handful of pics. and names since my niece was putting everything together for my mother. My alert is turned on, good luck.

Re: Pertusio, Italy > IL Terando families
I was hoping to get an E-mail address. We have several others that are researching the Terando family. Joseph Leon was born in Spring Valley to John Battista and Julia Hawotte. There are several spelling for both of them. I believe that they divorced, but I have no record of it. They had 4 children - John 1890-1918, died of flu, Emery 1891-1978, Mary Jane 1895-1961, and Joseph Leon 1897-1992. John Battista had 2 brothers and an uncle and his family also living in Spring Valley in 1900. The brothers were Gili Guido (Julius) and Bernard (Barney). The uncle was Steffano Joseph (Stephen) 1837-1910. Most of my contacts are relatives of Stephen. Stephen's brother was Giovanni Battista who stayed in Pertusio. He was John, Barney and Julius' father. Their mother was Marie Buffo.

Re: Pertusio, Italy > IL Terando families
Hi, I am not at all related to the Terando family, but my mother (age 92) was once courted by Hugo Terando in Spring Valley. However, I am related to Julia Hawotte, mentioned in this thread. She was first cousin to my grandmother. Julia was indeed married to John Battista Terando, in 1889, and had the four children mentioned in this thread. John Battista, by the way, was the cousin of Battista Terando who was the father of Hugo who courted my mother. John Battista and Julia were divorced sometime after 1897 and she married a Frank Piette. They had at least one son named Frank. He was born on Feb. 1, 1909 and died March 29, 1914. He is buried in the Ladd Cemetery a few feet from his grandparents Emery Hawotte and Jannette DeDobbeleer Hawotte. I have a photo of Franky tombstone if anyone would like a copy. Email me directly at magisterpat@gmail.com.
