I begin telling you my journey and why I have created this, please be patient since, its a bit long, but I'm sure any of you who read this could relate a bit with me, thank you.

My name is Natalie, I have been searching my ancestral line for many years now and have been lucky so far to have a glimpse of my family history. As a child I loved to hear stories of my maternal grandfather's side of the family, so as I grew older I started asking questions about them, who they were, how old were they when they past away, and so on. My grandfather wasn't much of a talker when it came to digging up the past but if asked the right question he would reply. He died when I was 12 years old and it was terrible pill to swallow, now fourteen years later I've come up with a bigger picture of the man I love so much. His history is slowly taking form and as for me I feel much closer to him than ever and perhaps as well as the rest of my family.

I began searching solely my grandfather ancestral line since I had more of a connection to him than my other grandparents. I'm sure most of you who are searching for your background are probably searching one specific line, its complicated with me and I won't get into it deeply.

I started with only my mother's parents name ( yeah I said only my grandfather but mom was not too pleased with my interest of one-side of the coin so just to please her) and their parents name. I subscribed to Ancestry.com for almost one year and then canceled and continue to search through the boards for any hints. Nothing.

I stopped for a time and it wasn't until my mother was going through some papers that belong to my grandfather's youngest brother and only living sibling left from that side of the family who passed away in 03. She came upon a document that was his birth registration, in it was the names of his parents and his grandparents, BINGO, another generation found. You can imagine the joy and surprise when we were reading this document, my mother failed to look at the papers when she came back from the funeral of my uncle, it was to hard for her but four/five years past when she finally got the courage to go through some of his belongings and we would of never realized that something that significant could be in a bunch of old papers.
*There one advice I give to you, check old papers if you have any of your folks you never know what hidden information they may contain in them.

So as the water cleared I had another generation (my great-great grandparents) for my tree. Finding this gave me a second wind to re-continue my search, I looked and looked, nothing. Until, one day I read a message from a thread on this site that was giving helpful hints where to find more information, familysearch.org, the site which belongs The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has loads of information in films cartridge. The site can give you addresses to their research center near you, all you have to do is rent the film, it sent from the main center in Utah to you to look upon. But don't fear because they are starting to upload them on their site, that is for us looking for relatives in Tepehuanes.

I was going through the site one day in 2010 when I saw a tab arrow on the right I clicked it and BANG the church baptism record of my grandfather's father, along with his date of birth and his parents. After that I found the marriage record of my grandfather's mother's parents along with the names of their parents (another generation found). Well it toke me around five hours straight looking through search results when I found the mother load, the Mexican Census of 1930 (60%uploaded), in there I found the census record for my grand fathers family he was 10 years old at that time. In there I saw some of his siblings and his parents, as well as in another search I found out that his grandmother was still alive but blind living probably in special house for the blind. You can probably imagine my excitement and my mothers' when I showed her these findings.

Today, I have a better view of my grandfather's family, how big they were, how old did they married, how many kids did they have, and so on. Yet I want to find more and this is why I have created this Board to find any more information about my family and possibly find long-last relatives. I will also give you information as to where to search and the best way to search in the site that I have been very fortunate to find my history, as well as give a hand in searching for individuals, who knows we can be distant cousins.

Now as I said before I have found new information on my family lineage and I want to share my information in the hopes that some names are similar to yours.
To begin, my mother is from a town in the capital of Durango, Durango, Mexico. The town is called Tepehuanes, hence the name of the board, in the old days it was called Santa Catarina de Tepehuanes. Tepehuanes in its self is both a town and a municipio, in it there are several small towns but it is Tepehuanes where almost all records are kept. In the old days you would go to Tepehuanes to register to marry, be baptize and so on. My great-grand parents lived in the town called La Cienega de Escobar a.k.a La Cienega, my grandfather and his siblings were born there but moved to Tepehuanes, being for them the big city per say. For those who have been there can agree its absolutely beautiful, I'm talking about ten years ago. I haven't been to Durango since 99, so I haven't been there in person since the upgrades its had, I love the way it used to be but I'm sure most of you can agree. Well I think I talked enough now to give you a view of what I'm doing. Feel free to thread your questions or share your information here.
