I have been researching my Tepe ancesters off and on for a number of years, but haven't made real progress in years. I just recently ran accross a website with scanned and searchable newspaper records for Quincy Illinois (where the family ended up).
In looking through the archives I found an obituary for Catherine Tofall (the mother of my Tepe family). The obitiuaty stated that "Deceased came to America in 1846 and settled in Cincinnati. In 1851 she came to Quincy and has lived here since." This is the first indication I have seen of what part of Ohio my ancesters went through.
With this knowledge I have been searching the 1850 census, but have not been able to find my family. I am hoping to find a connection to the other Tepe families in Cincinnati.
Here is what I know:
Katharine Mary Goetting had two children Frank Eberhardt Tepe (born July 27, 1843 in Germany), and Henry Tepe (born ~1847 in Ohio). Church records for Henry's death list his father as Johann Heinrich Tepe (I assume Katharine and Johann were married, but have never found any record of it). In 1851 Katharine had another son John with Conrad Tofall (pretty sure they were married, but have not found the date yet). I can find the family in the 1860, and 1870 census of Quincy Illinois (1860 lists Frank and Henry as "Tofall", by 1870 Frank is listed as "Tepe").
Anybody recognise "Johann Heinrich Tepe", "Katherine Goetting", or "Frank Tepe" from their Cincinnati reasearch?
Does anyone know any other online records I should be checking (already checked the 1850 census for Tepe, Tofall, or Goetting (and variations))?
Thanks.
