Samuel's father Edward was born 26 Mar 1853 in OH he was the son of Nelson Ten Eyck b. c. 1818 in NJ and d. 27 Jul 1866 and his second wife Sarah Ann Weaver b 1832 in IN m 23 Apr 1852 in Indianapolis In and d 18 Mar 1903 in Indianapolis IN Nelson fought in the civil war, I have his pension record. Nelson was a shoemaker by trade who married first Martha Haines in OH, so the grocer referred to in the bio was most likely Martha "Mattie" Hanway's father. I believe Samuel's parents divorced in 1882.

olivetreegenealogy.com New Amsterdam (New York) Reformed Dutch Church Records in New Netherland & New York 1696 shows den 12 dicto. Thomas Verdon, wedr. van Jannetje Claes, en Ytie Jeunaeus, wede. van Theunis ten Eyck d'eerste wonende op de Gujanes, en tweede alhier. den 26 April. I take this to mean that Tom Verdon was a widower of Jannetje Claes who then married the widow Ytie ten Eyck, widow of Theunis. I have no record of this Theunis but one researcher showed him married to Ytie in 1689 at the Reformed Dutch Church. Who were parents of this man? Please and thanks!

The Northeastern reporter, Volume 31 By West Publishing Company pg994 Ten Eyck et al. v. Whitbeck et al. Court of Appeals of New York. Oct. 4, 1892 Action of ejectment by Maria Ten Eyck and Cornelius H. Slingerland against Catharine A. Whitbeck and others. Apparently Peter W. Ten Eyck had died before 10-4-1892. Who was this Peter W. Ten Eyck--who were his parents, siblings? There was a question as to whether Peter W. Ten Eyck was of sound mind
or free from undue influence when he executed the conveyance to his wife. He supposedly had three daughters including Catharine A. Whitbeck. What was the given name of Catharine Whitbeck's husband? Why was Cornelius H. Slingerland involved in the action? Catharine A. Whitbeck had paid $10.00 to obtain a farm worth $20,000.00 but Peter had already conveyed it to his wife. Who was Peter W. Ten Eyck's wife? Any help much appreciated.

Thank you for that information, I was wondering if the Ten Eycks in New Jersey possibly came from the Netherlands or Holland as my ancestors according to research and info from others also came from Holland with the immigrant ancestor arriving in New Amsterdam in 1754. Before the Netherlands is unknown or should I say unproven. A letter from one descendent to another in the 1800's mentioned a "castle on the Rhine" which I take it may have referred to a location in Holland or Germany near the border of the two countries.

Thanks Again!
By the oaks, near the oaks is roughly the meaning of the surname. Congratulations on the birth of great grandson!

Liam Scott Ten Eyck (great grandson) arrived 22 Dec 2009. This was a shock of sorts! because in my family history my 3rd great grandfather Barnet/Barnes/Barent Smock was Barrant Smock listed as a member of Capt. Jacob Ten Eyck's company of the Brigewater Twp. Militia in Somerset Co., New Jersey from 1777 to 1781.

I am positive this Barrant Smock is my ancestor as his brother Abraham is also on one of the lists. Would someone be so kind as to Identify the European country of origin of the Ten Eyck name.
Thank you

Thank you for the Baltus Coon information. I had never heard of a Reniam Ten Eyck. However, Casper and Phoebe Ward Ten Eyck had a son they named Ransom in 1852. Barent and Ellen
Douglas Ten Eyck named a son Jerry Van Rancellar Ten Eyck 3-11-1856 who went by the name of Rancie. Barent and Ellen had come from Canada to the states and Rancie died in Iowa.
Casper went from NY to Canada and Phoebe was born in Canada.
My database has Nelson H. Coon and Louisa Noteman parents of Mary Emeline Coon 1849-1921 wife of Andrew Jackson Ten Eyck 1842-1923. They may have settled in Wisconsin. Any ties to your lines? Orson Nelson Coon 1834-1921 married 1868 Ida Ten Eyck in Milton, Rock Co., WI. Siblings married siblings-Mary Emeline and Orson to Andrew J. and Ida.

Margaret Ten Eyck was married to Baltus Coon. They lived in Ontario Co NY from their marriage in about 1813 until the early 1830's when they moved to Redford, Wayne Co. MI. Supposedly their eldest daughter was "Rene Ann" which sounds suspiciously like the "Reniam" who may have been a child of Cornelius and Mary.
The early Coons resided in Coeymans, NY in 1800.

After eight years of searching,we have recently discovered that in a TenEyck/Ten Eyck family we believed only had two sons in fact had three. James "Ten Eyek" b.3-20-1850 Taze-
well Co., IL married 8-14-1879 in Sangamon Co., IL Sarah B.
Pickett. She preceded him in death since his death certificate 4-10-1922 listed him widowed. He died in Osceola,St. Clair, MO but was buried Fairview,Fulton Co., IL. What we'd now like to learn is precisely who the informant was.
We know she was Miss Clara Ten Eyck of 17 East 97th St. Apt
2D NY but was she daughter of James and Sarah? Or, was she daughter of James' brother Jacob B.and second wife Louisa Jane Rendall(possibly Jennie Louise Arundell)Ten Eyck?
Allegedly,Jacob B.was born 3-24-1854 Peoria,IL and died 1932 Duval Co.,FL. His first wife was Mary Catherine Green 1858-1885,parents of Cora Ten Eyck 7-31-1872,wife of Charles Abner Coats. The other brother was Dwight W. Ten Eyck, born about 1852,second husband of Laura McMullen, wed 11-2-1882
Fulton Co., IL.Did this latter couple have children? According to James' death certificate, their father was Cornelius Ten Eyck born Watertown, NY. Their mother's name
was written Jane Wateman b.NY.Could Clara have been sister of the three brothers?Any help much appreciated and thanks.

Thanks to an alert researcher,a slight mystery is solving itself after a very long look at details.Jacob and Jane Middlesworth Ten Eyck had Cornelius Ten Eyck 8-20-1820,
Watertown,Jefferson Co.,NY.He married Jane Wateman according to MO death certificate for son James "Ten Eyek" of Osceola,
St.Clair,MO. I remembered seeing a James, born IL, marry Sarah B.Pickett but could not fit him in anywhere. The death certificate (d.4-10-1922)says he was widowed Sarah B.Ten Eyek. M.Belty told me that a relative of hers,Cora "Katie"
Coats had an uncle Jim. James born 3-20-1850 IL,brother Dwight W.b.1852(wife Laura McMullen 11-2-1882),brother Jacob B. born 1857(first wife Mary Catherine Green 1859-1885 second wife Jennie Louise Arundell or Luisa Jane Arendell
1860-1928). Informant on certificate Miss Clara Ten Eyek of 17 E 97th St. NY. James was buried Fairview,Fulton Co.,IL.
