Temby Family Tree

My Temby Great Great Grandfather is Richard Tenby (our name is found both ways, with an "N" in the middle and with an "M"), reportedly born in April of 1831 in Camborne, Cornwall, in the United Kingdom. I believe I have found him on the 1851 Census of England. It lists his as christened April 13, 1831. I am not sure of the name of my GG Grandmother, however, I believe it was his first wife (of three), Lavinia Davis, christened November 19, 1826 in Camborne, Cornwall.

Richard's parents were Nicholas Temby, christened January 23, 1808 in Camborne, Cornwall and Anne Trezona (Tresona) Temby, christened December 6, 1807.

My data is pretty solid all the way back to jolly old Richard Tenby (Temby) and his parents. It is there, where my research has come to a screeching halt. I have precious little information on Richard, his parents, family, subsequent wives, etc.

Please let me know if anyone thinks they have a connection or information.

JIM, On my chart it has Nicholas TEMBY (husband of Ann Trezona)as being the child of John Temby 1770 and Elizabeth Edwards who were married in 1793 at Camborne.John was the son of Nicholas 1740 who married Joanna Rough at Camborne 1769 and He was the son of Petter 1705-1763 who married Susanah Quentrill.Peter was listed as the son of John 1670-1727 and Bettrice. From there you would have the next generation being John who married Lowdy Rule in Camborne and ultimately to John and Mary Wennan 1630 at St. Anthony. This tree is all circumstantial and you would of course have to prove it but that is what makes genealogy so fun.
Good luck with your research.

Dear Judy,

WOW! Thank you for the great information! I am excited to plug into my chart. One question though. You said in your email that "this tree is all circumstantial." What exactly do you mean by "circumstantial?" And what sources or databases did this information come from?

Please don't misunderstand my question, I am very, very grateful to have the information. But knowing the sources will aid me in proofing it. Thanks again God bless.

Hi Jim, I agree 100% with you that you need documentation to back up all your research or it isn't worth anything. That is why I used the term circumstantial. I gave you the info. based on a tree that was sent to me several years ago from a cousin in Cornwall that I believe got it via Aus. Therefore I do not know the source and what they used to create it. However, I did check it against parish registers that I transcribed and it seems pretty good but there is no way to tell if for example John is the son of John or a cousin by the name of john born about the same time. Therefore I gave it to you as a guide for you to check and come to your own conclusions. Most of the Camborne Tembys were represented excepting my branch so there are errors or incomplete branches but it is a tool to start with. It showed that your Nicholas had a few brothers and sisters. Grace (c) 1794,Grace (1795; Nicholas 1798; John (c) 1800 married Ann Francis; Maria 1803 and Married Wm Quintrell 1830 Joanna (c) 1806 and your Nicholas 1808 married Ann Trezona and it appears had 2 sons Richard- Clunes (place spelling hard to read) and John from Long Gully. That is all the sisters and brothers I have. Let me know what you think. It is only a guide. But is probably based on baptismal, marriage and death info but you will need to verify with wills, tax info ect since there are no census.
Hope it helps. Judy

I just thought that you would like to know that my real name is Richard Tenby, my grandfather having shortened Tenenbaum to Tenby when he escaped from Poland during the war.

I believe I have written to you before - but, we are still searching for the Tembys and the Polkinghorns.
We will be headed to Wisconsin next month for the Cornish Festival and we hope to do some more searching and enjoying the pasties.
Our line goes back from my husband's grandmother, Ilia Polkinghorn, her mother Elizabeth Temby, her Father Richard Temby, his father Nicholas Temby and then maybe William Temby.
Can we exchange info???
Thanks.
