I am searching for information about my great-grandfather, Max Teichner, born 1865 in Hungary, emmigrated to the US about 1886, married Johanna Neumann in New York City. He lived most of his life there, and died in 1933 in Rye, NY. He had five children, Julius [Jay Tichenor], Rudolph Joseph [Roderic J. Tichenor], Charlotte, Estelle [Tichenor], and Herbert [Tichenor]. His sons changed the family name to Tichenor in the 1940s to avoid anti-semitism.

Hi - My name is Diane Teichner Seligmann - Your relative Julis was a relative of my grandfather's - Louis Teichner - Louis came to the US before WW II - through Elis Island - his cousin Morris brought the whole family over from Hungary one at a time - My grandfather stayed in NY - married Ethel Greenspan - they had three children (Robert, Patricia, Warren) - they moved to Boston - I am a daughter of Warren - I have two siblings - Susan and Stephen. The only child still alive is Robert Teichner - if you look at the white page listings you will see him listed in Palo Alto, CA - I would like to hear more from you and about your family background - I am just starting this search. (Robert has 4 children, Andrea, Janice, Sally and David) - Look forward to hearing from you.
By the way, I grew up in the Boston area - now live in Raleigh, NC.. Look forward to hearing from you.

Surnames: Teichner
Wow! I hope you are right! I would love to find some cousin connection for my Teichners! How do you connect with my great-uncle Julius Teichner? I have had difficulty researching this family because my grandfather left very little in the way of family lore behind, so there aren't too many clues to follow. I have corresponded with one of his second cousins who gave me the name of the town she believed the family was from--Tolcsva, Zemplen, Hungary. She grew up in Hungary and was the only survivor of Auschwitz in her family. As far as I know, my great-grandfather Max Teichner immigrated to America (NYC) with his parents Jacob & Johanna and his sister Leva and brother Samuel (another sister, Lottie, had married and so stayed in Hungary). I have lots of names and dates for the descendants of Max, but not much other information.

Are you familiar with Guido Teichner? He has compiled a database of every Teichner that he finds, and he sent me a copy. He has your family--starting with Lewis' father Adolph--and it looks like his information came from Robert, Maurice and Susan Teichner. I can give you his email address if you would like to contact him.

Hope I hear from you soon!
Kary

Hi:
As I understand it - Juilis was a cousin of my grandfather's and he moved to Boston - ran a very exclusive woman's dress store in the city - married late to Helda (I actually knew them - and got my first prom gown from him) and I do not remember if they had any children.
The Robert that you mentioned, is my Uncle Bob - first born to Louis Teichner (my grandfather) - Susan is my sister - youngest of Warren Teichner (youngest child to Louis) -
I would love to have the email address of the gentleman you mentioned your reply.
I am very anxious to get everything right - I just know that I have family out there that I am not aware of!!

Thanks - look forward to hearing from you. Diane

Surnames: Teichner
Oh darn! I was afraid of that! Wrong Julius! Mine changed his name to Jay Tichenor in the mid-forties and lived, as far as I know, in White Plains, NY. He married Rafaela Castro and had two daughters, Myrna and Maxine. He died in Dec 1964 and is buried at Riverside Cemetery in NJ. But all is not lost--it is very possible that the families are related farther back. I have done some looking for Teichners in Hungarian records on the JewishGen website (www.jewishgen.org/Hungary/) and there are some, but not many, so it stands to reason that ours are probably related somehow. Keep in touch!

Guido's email address is sybarite99@yahoo.com. He is a very nice person and very helpful. His Teichners come from Poland, but he has lots of information on Teichners from all over. He will be able to tell you where he got his information. Be sure to check Jewish Gen too--there are other Teichner researchers listed there. Good luck!
