Tefft-Pulman connection in Washington County, NY

I am trying to make a connection between two Pulman children that were taken in by the Tefft family in Washington County, NY. Here's what I know:

Four Tefft siblings, all unmarried and childless, lived together on the family farm in Argyle (North Greenwich), NY:
* Sarah Tefft (1797-1844)
* Asa C. Tefft (1802-1888)
* Hannah Tefft (1804-1888)
* Thomas Calvin Tefft (1806-1846)

At some point before 1850, Delia(or Cordelia) Pulman came to live with them as family, stayed there for her entire life and is buried alongside the family in Greenwich Cemetery.

James Pulman (birthdate unknown, but "under 21 years of age" in 1846) is mentioned as next-of-kin in at least two of the Tefft sibling wills. James lived in Illinois and his guardian was Renssalear Tefft.

The only possible connection between the families is the marriage of Sarah Tefft (1747-1815) and Jonathan Pulman (1754-1839). Sarah Tefft is the sister of the Tefft siblings' grandfather Benjamin Tefft.

My hunch is that Delia and James may be the grandchildren of Sarah Tefft and Jonathan Pulman. Perhaps their parents died and the other Pulmans had left the area?

I found a Delia Pulman listed in the Bottskill Baptist church records without a husband. Perhaps she was the single mother of these children?

Any information on the descendants of Sarah Tefft & Jonathan Pulman, or how these two families might be related, is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Laurie,

My great-great-grandmother was Emma Tefft. She married a Green (I think) and we all came from in and around Washington County, NY. Those names:Hannah Tefft and Asa Tefft ring a bell. I will send your query off to my Dad who knows a little more than I do. We have a family book of photos with names going back to the mid-eighteen hundreds and the Teffts are definitely in there. I have never heard of the Pulmans but you never know, it could be the right branch of the Teffts. I'll let you know if I get any more information.

Hi Elizabeth. I just saw your response (Ancestry doesn't tell me when someone responds!). If you get any information on Asa and Hannah, please pass it on, especially photos. There was another Asa Tefft in Greenwich who was much more prominent than my Asa.

My 3rd Ggrandfather B Frank Tefft's sister was named Emma, but she married a Baird. She was born in Greenwich about 1845. If that is your Emma, then Asa and Hannah Tefft are her aunt and uncle.
