I am looking for the birth place and parents of Charles B. TEFFT, MD b. March 03, 1838 & d. October 31, 1918, buried New Forest Cemetery - Utica, Oneida, New York. He married Sarah Antoinette Maben daughter of Abigail D. Allaben & Buell Maben. Sarah died July 01, 1888 in Utica and Charles may have married again. They were the parents of Inez Clementine Tefft m. Lewis Fay (had children & grandchildren); Antoinette Marie Tefft m. Frederick M. Miller, MD (had children & grandchildren); Charles D. Tefft m. Katherine Unknown (no known children) & Abigail Maben Tefft m. Unknown McElroy (no known children). Parents of Charles may be Sophia M.and John Tefft. If so he had at least four sisters, Anstes P., Lydia S., Josephine & Suzan M. and possibly two brothers, John & Parker. The first two sisters appeared not to have married. I would appreciate information on any of the above. Birth, marriage, death dates as well as spouses and children, etc. Any thing! THANK YOU

Is Rowland's father, Ezekiel Tefft I, the son of Samuel Tefft b. 1703 and Marcy Barber?

I am a descendant of Hezekiah Tefft I, son of Ezekiel Tefft I and Patience Potter. Tim Tefft's six-generation "A Record of Some of the Descendants of John Tefft of Portsmouth and Pettquamscutt, Rhode Island" shows Ezekiel's second wife as Eunice _____ and their children as Ezekiel Tefft II and Samuel Tefft.

Is Rowland the son of Ezekiel Tefft II?

Hezekiah Tefft I's son John Tift had a son named Hezakiah Tift II, who settled in Russia Township near Elyria, Lorain, Ohio. Some of Hezakiah II's children settled in Michigan.

I wonder if some of our ancestors were cousins who may have migrated together from Rhode Island to New York to Ohio to Michigan? That westward migration of Ezekiel I's descendants has proved challenging for me to document.

Any information you have might be helpful. Of course, I am happy to share information I have, if it would be helpful to you.

Virginia, I'm researching my wife's Tefft ancestry. I have a Roland b. Tefft who is the son of Ezekiel II Tefft. Amy Wilcox is his mother. This Roland B. is the brother of Ezekiel III, who was married to Mercy Wilbur. There's a great Tefft book entitled The Descendants of John Tefft (1614-1676) compiled by Rachael Saul Tefft in 1997. As a Tefft descendant, if you don't have this book I'd recommend buying a copy. If you need the publisher just email me.

Samuel Tefft and Marcy Barber were parents of Ezekiel I (1728) Ezekiel married (2) Eunice and they were the parents of Samuel and Ezekiel II (1760) Ezekiel II married Amie Wilcox, daughter of Stephen Wilcox.

Their children were Hulda, William Stephen, Nathan, Ezekiel III (1799)and Rowland 1807.

Ezekiel III is buried at Fort Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg, OH. I live in Perrysburg.

I do have a fair amount of info.

My great-great grandfather Lorin Palmer Tefft was the son of Ezekiel III. He and Charles were cousins. I have a letter that Charles sent to LP.

Does that book mention anything about Ezekiel I and II being in military service during Revolutionary War?

I did find that they are listed on the Military Census of 1777 - Rhode Island

I posted original message over 3 years ago... Have since found the answer to my inital question but it has led to more...

Charles Byron Tefft, MD b.5 Mar 1838 Remsen, NY, d. 31 Oct 1918, Utica, NY married Sarah Antoinette Maben as originally stated in query.

Son of John Dickinson Tefft b. 25 Dec 1803, Remsen, NY d. 20 Aug 1866, Remsen, NY and Sophia Messinger b. 13 Aug 1810 Remsen, NY d. Unknown probably Utica, NY... (9 children)

Son of Edmund Tefft b. 31 July 1750, South Kingston, RI d. abt 1831 Harpersfield, OH and Mary / Mercy Sweet b. 14 Aug 1749 Exeter, RI... (7 children) Served in Rev. War

Now it's a bit fuzzy...

Possibly son of James Tefft b. 15 Apr 1715, North Kingstown, RI d. abt 15 May 1758, Kingstown and Martha Sheffield dates unknown (7 children)

Is anyone out there researching this line?

I know that I am a descendant of Charles Byron Tefft, but I'd have to check with my uncle, Frederick Munger Miller III for more info. My middle name is Tefft and I grew up in Utica.

Antionette Marie Tefft (married Frederick Munger Miller I) was my great-grandmother who I remember. She died when I was uder 5 years. The Fay family you mention is definitely related. I also remember Nettie (Antionette) Fay who was married to Lee Ross. They lived in Utica as did my maternal grandparents and great-grandparents.
