Joseph,
I do not recognise people in the pictures you sent but there appears to be a family resemblance. I will try and get some of his brothers families to confirm this.
My father's first cousin is a Matthew Teehan born 31/1/1918 in Ireland and I have a copy of his Birth Registration as I am researching my family tree.
Can you tell me did he go to Papua New Guinea from England or Australia ? And what are your brothers names?
We would really like to sort this out.
Regards,
Vera.

Dear Vera - I thought I should share the following with you in this forum for the benefit of not only you and your efforts (post October 2013) but also for the benefit of the PNG Teehans, Bernadette Byrne and Michelle back there in Tullow. I shared the following with Bernadette earlier this year:
" On another note I'm very sorry I omitted to share with you some other information about Matty Teehan which I gleaned from the Archives office in Kew London whilst researching our great grandfather Edward Carson - that information re Matty is as follows: According to the records of the Archives UK a Matthew Teehan aged 32 years in 1950 departed Glasgow on the 5th of April 1950 on the ship the Empire Brent and the port of arrival was Sydney Australia - his address as at the departure date was 21 Cromwell St Chesterfield" I have since discovered that Chesterfield is in central England. In addition earlier this year I came across Frank Hanrahan who coincidently lives close to my brother Kevin and sister Colleen and who I discovered via a missionary website associated with the Catholic Church that was doing some work in and near Madang in PNG - I asked Frank if he would make some inquiries about the Teehans with his local contacts in Madang but alas there was no response - hopefully Joseph Teehan will see this post and respond to recent posts and perhaps provide a phone number or email address as it would be nice to solve the mystery of the disappearance from Ireland of Matty Teehan all those years ago - especially at this time of the Christmas season. It is apparent that there is interest, concern and curiosity literally all over the world about whatever happened to Matty. For what it is worth I have seen the photos of Matty Teehan provided by Joseph and I am convinced that he is a Carson (after his mother) as I can see a stark resemblance with him and young versions of my father and his brothers. Pat

Hi all
My name is AJ and I met some of the PNG Teehan family several years ago. I am also Irish (now living in NZ but I often work in Papua New Guinea). Mary Teehan (Joseph's daughter & Matthew Teehan's granddaughter) wrote me a letter and hid it in a bag she gave me as my team left the village. The letter asked for my help in tracing their family - at the time I Googled it but found nothing and asked my family in Naas if they knew any Teehans in Tullow but no. I found the letter again today while tidying and thought I'd try again and found this thread!!
Mary said her grandfather told them he was born in Tullow, Carlow and left his family during World War 2. he came to PNG as a soldier, then settled and married which I think is consistent with what her father Joseph said before.
Let me share the contact information I know. The Teehan family live in a village called Erima, several hours from Madang. Erima is quite remote (it does now have a road and a bus connection to Madang) but no electricity lines or internet etc. Which is possibly why you haven't heard much back from Joseph.
Mary gave me two phone numbers to contact them on 72249632 and 72040122 (the 22 at the end could possibly be 77 or 72). The PNG prefix is +675.
These numbers were given to me in 2011. If they no longer work, let me know as I have contacts in Madang that should be able to get the number of the local church pastor who lives close to the Teehans and knows them.
Family is so important in PNG and I know the Teehans are desperate to connect with their irish roots and family. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know (I travel home to Ireland every couple of years and to PNG on a regular basis - although I'm not often in Madang).
Bless you all - if you do manage to find each other and connect I would love to know. I've often thought about Mary and the mystery of this family and hoped it worked out.

Hi there AJ - Pat Carson from Melbourne Aus here - you have made my day/year - and I know there will be a number of people who will be delighted and excited about receiving your post including/especially Bernadette Byrne, Michelle and Vera Carson (all Ireland). Firstly could you tell me what part of NZ you live in and email me to pcar8133@bigpond.net.au your phone and email contact details? We have NZ relatives all over NZ who originally settled in and around Wellington (I'll provide further details via either phone or email). If you read my ancestry post you will note that I have absolutely no doubt having seen some photos provided by Joseph that the PNG Teehans are (closely) related to the Tullow Teehans some of whom have been desperately trying to make contact for several years - as I am a relative of Matthew Teehan's mother (she is my paternal grandfather's sister and was born Elizabeth Carson and died Elizabeth Teehan aged 100 years and so a legend in the family) I too am very interested in making contact with the PNG Teehans because I have been informed that my father (Matthew Teehan's first cousin) had contact with Matthew in Australia in the late 1940's/early 1950's prior to Matthew's eventual journey to PNG - many thanks again for your post and I look forward to hearing from you further either via ancestry and/or email or phone
