Am looking for any information on the family of John W. Teefy and his wife Bridget Doughaney. Both emigrated from Ireland in 1853 and came to Iowa. Both are buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Iowa City. Their children are Elizabeth (Teefy) Rainbolt (born 1848); Mary Ann (Teefy) Harney (born 1850); John W. Teefy, Jr. (born 1853 and married Sara Elizabeth Millett); and Margaret Ann Teefy (born 1856).

Anyone doing research on this family? I have information I'd be happy to share about their descendants, but have very little info about John and Bridget.

Pat

Pat, this is old stuff but just now stumbled on your inquiry. I am a Teefy from Iowa City-Johnson County and my dad was named John Teefy born approx. 1892. My niece "Beth Teefy" is doing research on the Teefys and you may have already been in touch with her, if not, her email address is: teefy002@umn.edu. I am the last of seven Teefy kids from Iowa City and never paid much attention to family when growing up so am not up to speed on all this stuff. We had a Teefy family reunion in Rochester, MN this past July of those still kickin from the Iowa City clan.

Dick,

Thanks so much for your response. I'm sorry for my delinquency in responding to your note. I'm in the process of changing Internet Service Providers so I have been unable to access my email for the last several weeks.

I have a feeling that we are talking about the same family. The John W. Teefy (born in 1824) that I am tracing had a son also named John born in 1853. That second John also had a son named John who I find was born in the early 1890s! Combine that with the proximity of Iowa City and it's a pretty compelling argument that we "might" be talking about the same family.

Do you have aunts named Maxine, Anna and Lucille by chance?

I appreciate the lead regarding your niece. I will contact her and hopefully we can exchange some mutually beneficial information. I'll keep you posted on what I find out.

Thanks again, Dick, for the return message.

Pat

Dick,

Do you have knowledge of a woman by the name of Sarah Teefy? She would have died in 1940. She's buried in North Liberty Cemetery in Cedar County. Her maiden name was Millett.

Could she have been your grandmother?

Hi Dick,

I sent a message to your niece last month and have not heard back from her. I'd sure like to exchange information with her. If you happen to be in touch with her, remind her that I'd like to discuss her work with the Teefy family tree.

Thanks. Hope all is well.

Pat

Pat, don't feel bad, she didn;t answer my last email either. She has all the info and I will send her another one and tell her to get off her butt. I can do that as I am her "black sheep uncle". I hope all is well wherever you are. Dick Teefy

Hi Pat, last message to you was on Nov 16th, 2004. I did not hear back from my niece Beth Teefy in Minnesota who was doing research on our Teefy family. You might try contacting my brother Paul Donald Teefy at :paulteefy@yahoo,com.

He is the oldest living member of my side of the Teefy family and possibly can provide you with more info. Would be very interested in what you have found out so far. My sister Phyllis Teefy Goff who had more detailed family information died a couple of years ago and did not provide her research to any of us Teefys. Have a good one.

Dick,

Thanks for touching base with me. I tried a couple of times to contact your sister but she didn't respond. I'll give your brother a try to see if we have a connection.

I've been in Ireland for the last several months and have spent some of that time doing some research on my Father's side of the family (between pints!) If I could be armed with a little Teefy information, it might be worth my while to switch gears to my Mother's side (the Teefy side) for the duration of my stay! I'm pleased with the success I've had with my Father's side.

Have you tried contacting the family of Phyllis to see if they'll share her research information? Seems a shame not to share that kind of information as it could only enhance the possibilities of finding even more information about the family from others doing research on families that might have ties.

Thanks again for staying in touch, and I'll let you know if I hear from your brother.

Pat
