Short History of the Teed Family
There appears to be two distinct Teed familys connected around 1550. One branch has come up through the centurys based in the vicinity of Wisbech Norfolk and the other in the vicinity of East Budleigh Devon. Although I have collected both familys names I have concentrated on building up the East Budleigh branch as this is the branch of my ancestors. I will get round to constructing the other branch. Although romanticaly I wish the East Budleigh Teeds were the original family, certain names and dates lead me to believe that the Teed family originates in Norfolk. I believe the TEED name comes from Tydd which means a hill in a plain. There are several such hills in Norfolk,Tydd St Martin and Tydd St Peter etc and the Teed familys can be traced right back to 1550 ish in this area, and there are still Teed familys living there today. A Richard Tydd / Tudd appears in East Budleigh around 1580 but his offspring appear as Tudd / Teed. There is much mystery and years of work back this far and I might still find that the Teed clan came from some long forgotten Devonshire smuggler or pirate.
