Descendants of Nathaniel (Tead) Tidd
Generation No. 1
1. NATHANIEL (TEAD)1 TIDD was born Bef. 1690 in Boston/Salem, and died Aft. 1717 in Boston/Salem.
Notes for NATHANIEL (TEAD) TIDD:
An N. Tead paid money into the estate of deceased James Butler. Had to be at least 21 yo.
Since he owed a Boston rope maker money, perhaps he was from Boston and possibly a sailmaker like a possible grandson.
There is a Nathaniel Tead paying money into the estate of Mary [Bowditch] Butler in 1717 in Salem.
James Butler (17) b. 1688, Aug. 21. He d. 1715, Oct. m. Abigail Eustiss, 1710, April 6, and also m. Mary Bowditch, daughter of William Bowditch of Salem, mariner. His estate. At the request of his widow and Page 30

children who were minors, William Bowditch of Salem, mariner [father of Mr. Butler's second wife] and John Eustiss of Boston, housewright [father of Mr. Butler's first wife]
were appointed administrators of the estate of James Butler of Boston, rope-maker,
deceased. They returned into the Probate Court an inventory of said estate, taken
Oct. 27, 1715, by Samuel Barrett and Joseph Billings. The house and land of James
Butler adjoined those of Thomas Jackson a distiller who had married unk. Butler's
sister (15) in 1706, and who probably brought up his three orphan children.

From N. Tead, œ 14 14 6
From James & John Barton and Eliza Simpkins, œ214 0 0

John Eustiss died in 1723, leaving œ1049, 3s, 6d, and William Bowditch died 1728-9, Feb. 7. They left Butler's estate more than fourteen years after his death still unsettled, and Joseph and Ebenezer, sons of Bowditch, were appointed to complete the settlement. No record of their proceedings has thus far come to light. The three children were probably brought up by their aunt Jackson.

1790 there is no Nathaniel Tidd etc. in MA census.
1800 Newburyport, Essex Co, MA census, p. 348 under TEED. There is a woman b. bef 1755 and one b. 1774-1784 plus two children under 10 years old. I am conjecturing that the elder was a mother or ML and the younger the wife.
1810 same, p. 198. Interpolating ages from two sets of census figures. Older woman is still with them. Samuel and Ruth [Mighill] TIDD are in Danvers, Essex Co, MA (formerly Salem Village.]
1820 There is a widow Susan Teed in Newburyport.
Guesswork: perhaps he is descended from Joshua Tead/Teed/etc of Salem, Essex Co, MA.
Could be a brother to Charles C. Tidd of Rowley, Essex Co, MA in 1830
There is a Nathaniel Teed as Loyalist in St. John, NB but they were all shipped out in 1783 at the end of the Revolutionary War [called the War of Rebellion in Canada.]
