Seeking info. on Zachariah Tedder, born abt. 1800, and his wife Penelope ?, born abt. 1800, both in NC. Zachariah was the father of Josiah H. Tedder, born 1848 in Houston Cty, GA. My Tedders eventually settled in Northeast Texas. Thanks for any info.

You are on the wrong track. My GGG Grandfather was Zechariah Tedder (born 6 May 1793). His father was Harmon Tedder, descended from Benjamin Tudor/Tedder. Zechariah married WInney Eastridge (1800--1834),daughter of Nathan Eastridge of Wilkes County, NC, on 7 Feb 1817. He lived on Hunting Creek in NC, near Wilkseboro. He had seven children, two sons and 5 daughters. Both sons died of disease in the Confederate Service. Be glad to provide additional information if you need it. I can find no other Zechariah Tedder.

Thank you for the response, Robert. The information I have on the Tedders has been passed down through the generations so I'm not sure of it's origin.
If Zachariah was not the father of my Josiah Tedder (who married Elizabeth Donalson then Frances Parker), do you know who his father was by any chance? His son with Elizabeth was Alonza Benjamin Tedder, my great-grandfather.
Thanks again. Any info. is very helpful. SBass

Note the difference in spelling. My Zechariah is with an e, not an a. Zechariah was born 6 may 1793.

Did one of Zachariah's sons, who died in confed. service, have a son named James Monroe Tedder?
|
Zechariah had two sons, James who was my gg grandfather, and Houston/Huston. Both died of diease in the civil war, one at Petersberg, Va and the other one at the Orange County Courthouse. James had only one son, William Riley Tedder. As I understand, Houston's sons became Tetters. Such changes were not uncommon; For example, John Tedder who is recorded in the Library of Virginia, had sons Benjamin and John JR who were given the last name of Tudor. Benjamin Tudor's son, also called Benjamin, was listed both as a Tedder and other places as Tudor. I have a land deed from Benjamin Tedder/Tudor's son, Harmon Tedder, in which the name on the deed was Tudor. When people couldn't read or write names were written down by sound. Woody Tedder

Kathy, At one time, in looking for the parents of James Monroe Tedder, I seriously considered that Sherry's Zechariah Tedder to be that parent. I now know that is incorrect. Supposition has it drawbacks; you can never remember all the folks that you talked your theories over with. I am sorry for any inconvenience to you.

There were two Zechariah Tedders born in NC. One was my GGG grandfather, spelled Zacheriah. The second was named Zachariah. The second moved on to Georgia. All of his children were born in Georgia. Edith: Based upon the information my sister received from Wilkes County NC, have found Zechariah's marriage record. However it was spelled Zachariah Teeder. It is my ggg grandfather though as the lady he married is my ggg grandmother, Winey Eastridge. The names of the other participants at the marriage were Jermiah Gilbreath, and W.W. Martin.
