Hi Bonita,

Harry Tebbs was the son of William Johnson Tebbs and his wife Harriet Newell Hughes. William Johnson Tebbs was born in Green County, Kentucky about 1821, the son of John Tebbs and his wife Rachel Wilcoxson. In the mid-1860's William J. Tebbs and his family left Kentucky for Missouri/Nebraska. About 1868 they lived in Nebraska, just across the river from St. Joseph, Missouri. William J. Tebbs and his family eventually settled in Labette County, Kansas, where William died. He is buried with his wife in the Pumpkin Creek Cemetery on Rte 166 just outside Coffeyville, Kansas. His son Harry remained in Kansas for several years. I believe Jennie Parker was his second wife. He had a son Louis Tebbs who lived in Phillips County, Kansas. In later life Harry lived in St. Joseph, Missouri where he worked as a driver and forman for a railway company. I have additional information on his Tebbs ancestors.

Hi Bonita,

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you descend from the family of Harry and "Jennie" Tebbs? The Tebbs line in the United States starts with Daniel Tebbs and his wife Charlot Foushee. Daniel first lived in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He moved to Prince William County, Virginia in the 1720's and died there circa 1742 leaving 8 known children. Most of the people in the United State with the surname Tebbs descend from this Daniel and Charlot Tebbs.
One of Daniel's sons was James Tebbs, who was born circa 1717 and died in Prince William County, Virginia in 1771. James had a son Deskin Tebbs, born 1745, who migrated to Kentucky about 1796 and settled along the Green River in what became Green County, Kentucky. Deskin was married at least twice and had many children. His second wife was Leannah Johnston. The area of Green County that Deskin and Leannah Tebbs settled in was located along a sweeping curve of the Green River. This area came to be known as "Tebbs Bend" and was the site of the Battle of Tebbs Bend during the Civil War. Deskin Tebbs died in 1821 leaving 12 known children. His 8th known child was John Tebbs, who married Rachel Wilcoxson and settled in Barren County, Kentucky. I have greater detail on these people and the Tebbs line in general. If you send me your e-mail I will send it directly.

John, I'm researching Daniel and Charlotte Foushee's son William. I show him married to Mary Heath with a daughter Judith Heath Tebbs who married Robert Young Sr.
Also, I show Robert's father Thomas Young married to Margaret Tebbs. More information would be welcomed.

Hi Lucy,

Thank you for your query. I have lots of information on William Tebbs and his family. William married twice, first to Mary Heath and second to Victoria Haislip. Three known children were born from his first marriage [Daniel Heath Tebbs, Judith Heath Tebbs and George Tebbs], and two children from his second marriage [Victoria Tebbs and William Henry Tebbs]. I assume you descend from William's daughter Judith Tebbs, who married Robert Young. If you know which of Robert and Judith's children you descend from I can send you some more detailed information. You can contact me directly at JFKebler@aol.com.

Thanks,
