Hi Barb,
My Grandfather, Antoni Tchorzewski (who passed away a few years ago in Poland) came from the part of the Ukraine that was once Poland (perhaps where you speak of). I don't know too much about the family line except that it was once aristocratic. However, invading Ukrainians left much of the family dead, and those that remained living were either sent to work camps in Siberia or taken to other camps by the also invading Germans. The Tchorzewski family lost all its wealth and land virtually over night. THe separation also split the family apart in such a way that my grandfather never knew whether certain family members were dead or just living somewhere else. A few years befored he passed, he actually found out his 2 half sisters (that he thought were dead) were living in Siberia.
My mother and aunts, who are from Poland, can give you better details about the family. THey remember the stories my grandfather used to tell about his family, and they know a significant portion of the family tree by heart. I'll ask them for you and will reply back as soon as I can (although I'm quite busy lately).
Good Luck,
Joanna
