Am also looking for family name Tchir.
Grandfather was John,Jan or Ivan.
Lived in Vancouver B.C. 1910-1920 I think.
Had three sons. Divorced or separated when the sons were very young. The boys went with their mother.
Nothing else is known.
Any connection to your search?

Surnames: Tchir
I believe my grandfather, Ilko Musyt's, mother was Pelegia Tchir. He came over from Galicia Austria Hungary around 1913. He was called Aleck, Elias here. He had a brother Dymetri, called Gregory. Gregory's family settled in the Wilkes Barrie PA area and Aleck settled in Cuyahoga Falls OH.
I spoke with someone with the surname Tchir from Canada and he said that the name is like Smith in the states - very common. However, I was viewing some microfiche from the Galacia area and didn't find the name.

Hi, wow been a long time since I heard anything from anyone.
I have heard the surmane is like Jones also. The Tchir in my family (great grandfather) was named Daniel suppose to be an only child but I really don't know. He came here around 1896 from same area. Village they were married in was in Poland Wola Michova. They were Byzantine Catholic and considered Ruthenians. All Tchirs I have contacted have no connections to make. It was very frustrating hahaha

Schuylkill County in PA had Tchirs liste4d in Shenandoah but searching the county record years ago ffound no link.

Hope you have better luck. Joe Gabuzda
