Surnames: TAYLER, SHORE
I'm looking for information on William TAYLER who was a solicitor and married Elizabeth Ann SHORE (born abt. 1830 also in Deptford). They had six children - Elizabeth (b 1850), Frederick Clarence (b 5 October 1851), Eliza W (b 1853), William Sydenham (b 1855), Lillian (b 1857) and Alice G (b 1859). They come up in the 1861 Census as living in Tidenham, Gloucester and in the 1851 Census as living in Greenwich, Kent. I know they also lived in Ryde on the Isle of Wight around 1855. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Adam

Just wondering if you have succeeded in going further back on this query you have for Michael Tayler.

No, the trail seems to end with this William. One of his sons (also William) emmigrated to Australia around 1885 and this William Tayler was my great grandfather. He was a mariner and owned two clippers (kind of a James Onedin type) but died on a voyage back to Sydney when my great grandmother was pregnant with my grandfather (yet another William) so we don't know much about him. I found some UK census records that list the first William Tayler living with my great grandfather and his sisters on the Isle of Wight and another place (I haven't got the info in front of me right now). I know he was a barrister. Is any of this of any interest to you ? Cheers, Adam

William was the son of Caleb Martin Tayler & Elizabeth Marshall. Caleb was a shipbuilder, Caleb was the son of Michael Tayler & Frances (Fanny) Martin. Michael was also a shipbuilder. Caleb was building ships in Penang. If you can email me I can send you info that I have. Cheers Evelyn

Hi Evelyn
That explains my great grandfather's interest in ships ! As I mentioned, he had two clippers, Morning Light and Evening Mist. I called my last boat Morning Light too. One of my uncles has oil paintings of them. When you say 'Penang', do you mean the Penang in Malaysia or is there another Penang in the UK ?
I'd love to find out what you know about them. My email address is adam@sculpturebythesea.ca.
Are you related to William Tayler ? Would you like me to dig out the info I have on my great grandfather's adventures in Australia ?
Cheers
Adam

IT was Penang Malaysia. Caleb's sister Fanny married my gggfather Henry King and one of the witnesses was Caleb Martin Tayler. He had such a large creative signature I had to find out who he was. I found he was Fanny's brother. Fanny died after 3 years of marriage possibly in childbirth. No children to this marriage so I'm not a descendant, I just had to find more info on who she was.
Cheers Evelyn

The big flowery signatures must have been a genetic thing - you should have seen my grandfather's signature and he never met his father !

Whereabouts do you get your information from ? I couldn't get any further than the first William Tayler. I couldn't even find info on the sisters and what happenned to them. I've also got a horse & sheep stealing gggrandfather who got himself caught, convicted and deported to Australia but I can't find any trace of him before the conviction. He had a wife and two children that he left behind in Northern Ireland and never saw again.

Cheers

Adam
