Greetings Bruce

My wife Janet is a descendant of Henry Tayler, cooper, and Matilda Shrimpton (Schrimpton/Scrimpton), who married at St Ebbes Oxford on 8 April 1824. Henry Tayler was baptised 18 October 1797at St Ebbes, and was the third son of Joseph Tayler, cooper, and Susanna Wise, who were married at St Ebbes on 17 October 1791. Janet is descended from Henry and Matilda's eldest son Joseph. Happy to pass on more details if you are interested. Best Regards

Keith Henry.

Thanks - there is a definite tie in there, can you contact me direct, my email is brucetayler@slingshot.co.nz.

Does your wife have any family tree info - if so I would love to see it, I have info on two emigrants to NZ in 1850 and 1864.

I am in New Zealand, where are you?

Bruce

Matilda Shrimpton (the adding of a c to the surname is extremely rare and usually only occurs in South Africa or America where the spelling is influenced by German/Dutch) was born 7th October 1801 and baptised 8 th November at St. Anne's Soho (London).
On the 1851 census the family were in Pembroke Street Oxford. Henry was a cooper and Matilda a bookseller born Golden Square London.
On the 1861 census the address was 27 Speedwell St Ebbes Oxford.
Henry's death was registered in Headington district in 1865.
On the 1871 census Matilda was living with her daughter Matilda and her family, at St. Johns Road, St. Giles Oxford. She gave her birthplace as Soho. Her death was registered in Headington district in 1873.
Matilda was one of 7 known children and was probably the second eldest. Her son George with his cousin John Ingram Shrimpton arrived on 16th December 1850 in New Zealand on the 'Charlotte Jane'. Another cousin Philip Davis, the son of Matilda's only sister arrived in New Zealand in 1867. Two of Matilda's brothers also emigrated to New Zealand, John and Ingram in 1853 on the ship 'John Taylor'.

Valda Shrimpton

Thanks for your reply, Valda. Matilda died on 13 October 1873 at 2a St Johns Road, St Giles, Oxford. Do you know anything more of Matilda's parents. All I know is that they were John Shrimpton, bookbinder, and his wife Rebecca, and that both were still alive in Oxford at the time of the 1841 census. The Shrimpton children I know of were Matilda, Thomas (c1806), John(c1809), Ingram(1813) and George (christened St Ebbes, Oxford 2 February 1817), and would be grateful for any more details if you have them. Best Regards Keith Henry.

Keith,
thank you for the details of Matilda's death and place of death. I presume you know what she died of? Do you have Henry's death details?
my email address is
vshrimpton@aol.com
Matilda's father died in 1854 and her mother in 1860.
I can trace Matilda's Shrimptons back to her grandparents.
Regards
Valda
