Hello Susan,

I only recently found my family's connection to the Venors. I think our trees may be connected, because my family tree also has Venors who are bouncing between Florida and New York (Rochester). I have a Stuart Robert Venor, born in 1920, listed as a son of William J Venor. The only marriage record I could find for William Venor was for his marriage to Fannie Hartle in 1915.

My connection to the Venors is through a marriage between Amelia Rodgers and Edmond Venor in Rochester in 1884. Amelia is the daughter of my great-great grandparents, Joseph Rodgers and Adelia Grant. Amelia died in Florida, and it looks like a number of their relatives moved down from Rochester to Florida, too. I'd love to work with you to sort this family out!

Hi. I am the great granddaughter of Rosa Bessie Venor b.1894. Rosa was a cousin of William J. Venor b.1890 (Susan, your grandfather). You may want to look at my tree as I have compiled a lot of info on the Venors. The most interesting thing I discovered is that the family name was actually Merry in Derby, England before they came to Canada and then America. I was very close with Rosa and began researching because I knew she was orphaned as a young child and I was curious about her story. Rosa is listed in most records as being the daughter of Harry and his wife Anna. Harry was her uncle who got her from the orphanage and raised her. Her mother was Harry's eldest sibling, also named Rosa, who died of TB. Harry, Edmund, Rosa (the elder), Jennie Jane, William, and James were all siblings - the children of Andrew Merry (Venor) and Martha Jane Lownds. Most of the family moved to Ontario and then to the Rochester area.
