Gertrude Taylder CUTTINGS
My gg grandmother Jane CUTTINGS (CUTTANCE) named one of her sons Thomas Taldor PEARCE (born 1837 in Uny Lelant, Cornwall). Thomas immigrated to Australia and named one of his sons Thomas Taldor as well. Jane's sister was named Gertrude Taylder CUTTINGS (CUTTANCE) and she was born in Mylor, Cornwall in 1812. Jane and Gertrude's parents were John CUTTANCE (b St Keverne, Cornwall) and Elizabeth THOMAS who were married in Falmouth, Cornwall. We presume the name Taldor came from Tayldor and I am curious to know where this name originated for our family. If any one has any ideas I'd be happy to know of them. Thank you Pam

Re: Gertrude Taylder CUTTINGS
Hi Pam, No ideas as to how it originated in your family. It's certainly a name that has strong Cornish/Devon links. Used as a middle name suggests an ancestor link. My family are all from Penryn as is another surviving line. In the 1851 census there are Taylders in St Austell and Falmouth.

Re: Gertrude Taylder CUTTINGS
I can't help on the Taylder origins, but I think I've finally linked the John Cuttance you mention to the rest of the St Keverne Cuttances, assuming (through a bit of family reconstitution) that it was he was baptised there on 17 Jan 1767...

Re: Gertrude Taylder CUTTINGS
Nice to hear from you. Yes, John CUTTANCE was born on that date. I now know how the Taylder came to be in Gertrude's name as I have found that her grandmother's surname was TAYLDER. Are you a Taylder descendant too? I'd be interested to see what you have to see how it fits with what I have now found. You can email me at phveenstra-pom at hotmail.com if you wish. Thanks Pam
