G. Garrison Tawney
G. Garrison Tawney, 90, of Looneyville, W.Va., died Sept. 14, 2004, at his home after a sudden illness.
He was born Nov. 11, 1913, in Newton, W.Va., a son of the late Aaron and Almon Graham Tawney. He was a 1935 Spencer High School graduate and a 1940 graduate of Marshall College where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Pi. He was a school teacher and principal in Roane County for 36 years before retiring from Left Hand Elementary School in 1976. His greatest love was cattle farming. His hobby was gas well leasing. In his younger years, he enjoyed fox hunting, deer and turkey hunting.
He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Lela Anne and Vernon Goff of Hurricane, W.Va., and Janice Evelyn and Clifford Cooper of Eden, Md.; four grandsons and their wives, Matthew and Penny Goff of Hurricane, Nathan and Amy Goff of Burbank, Calif., Adam and Caren Goff of Owings Mills, Md., and Aaron and Betsey Cooper of Snow Hill, Md.; three sisters, Mamie Haines of Newton, Florence Dalton of Vienna and Anna Desposito of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and four brothers, Clement Tawney of Left Hand, Clark Tawney of Wallback, W.Va., Jarrett "Buzz" Tawney of Spencer and Dan Tawney of Newton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda Evelyn Vineyard Tawney; one sister, Mabel Rogers; and two brothers, Ernest and Harry Tawney.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Mike King officiating. Burial will be in the Vineyard Family Cemetery, Looneyville. Visiting hours are scheduled for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
