Surnames: TAWES
"Cousin Bill" I have seen the name Tawes spelled two different
ways with in the same document!?! I am reasonably sure
however that the first Tawes here, Capt. John Tawes preferred
TAWES, because he signed several legal documents in that
manner including his letter of protest that he filled with the
Taballion Public in Antigua and in the Worcester County
Deeds Book. He was captured by the French in July 1759
off of the Island and the letter from the French Admiralty
Court also spelled it TAWES as I recall. He was briefly held
by the French, but later released, less his ship and cargo!
