Hi , Carol ,

I think you're right re Edward and Phoebe...found them at Gillingham , breeding like rabbits..9 at the last count.
Was trying to make a Rammadge/Taw/Chenoweth connnection pre1800..couldnt see anything on their marriage entry 1789 Chatham..but they certainly were in Gillingham 1792/1812 for sure....Where is Brompton ??
My Nanny was called Phoebe , as was my Mother ! altho I haven't found any other Phoebes vis s vis the Taws..Nanny was a Taw..

Did we find out when Elizabeth ,1st wife of Robert died???

Have you trawled thro cityark Gillingham at all yet ?
Do we know when the last child was born to them...I know he re-married in 1815..I think I'll have a leisurely scroll thro' altho if you have already done that !!!!

I think I saw some Taws in Menhiot once when I was messing about ..

I feel it in my water that they must have gravitated from the west of the country ...and come round the coast ..as you say , they seem to be bound up in ship related employment ...

I found Ed and Phoebe's 1st child's baptism ...I hope his occup was shown but it wasn't ..something like Naval doings

Am going to see if I can find Taw wherever !!! but I can see that you and Ron seem to have it covered...

will see what I can find , if anything !!!!

Hi again Joyce

My grandfather was born in Old Brompton and a lot of what is now known as Gillingham was New Brompton. I was born in Chatham and left there as a 3 year old but used to return to visit my grandparents who lived in Gillingham. Wikipedia gives this info: Today Brompton is a small residential area between Chatham Dockyard and Gillingham. Here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brompton,_Medway

I haven't found Elizabeth TAW's death. She could have died anywhere between Kent and Hampshire. I haven't trawled through Gillingham looking for TAWs yet but must do at some point.

The IGI has no further children for Robert and Mary TAW who was Mrs COX and we don't have a baptism for your Jeremiah who married Naomi CAMERON. I think he was probably the youngest child born to Robert and first wife Elizabeth.

I'll keep having a search about.

Good luck with your hunting. It's good that Ron is finding some more lines in Hampshire.

Best wishes

Carol

Interested to see the other children listed. I think my great grandmother, Sarah Ann Taw b. 1829 is a child of Jeremiah and Naomi Taw.
