Hi A friend of mine is researching the Tave's. Malka (Mollie) Cirie Tave Mayer Tave
He said his grandmother was born Russia.

That is very interesting. I have heard of Tave's from Russia and Spain since writing my post. My dad always told us a different story - I am very curious to know what your friend comes up with. It is always good to know more about your background - mine should be fairly easy since the name is not very common. I also noted the difference in the ethnic backgrounds. I always thought as I said before that the Tave's were primarily black or native americans, but recently realized different.

I don't know if your jewish or not, but I am and my roots on my father's side go back to there. I would love to compare info if your interested. Let me know.

Re: Interested as well in Tave roots
Hi David, My Grandmother was from Minsk also (thot it was Latvia but new info suggests Minsk). Her name was Ida Tave & she married into the Louis Kaufman family. I haven't found her on the immigration ships yet. I've been told by my Aunts that the original family name in Russia was not Tave...more like Tavosky, etc). I've also heard that Ida had 2 brothers, Nat & Harry, who settled in N.Y. or Boston. They were in the shoe business. We are also Russian Jews. What were your Tave relative's names? Could this be the same family? Regards, Leslie

Hi David, My Grandmother, Ida Tave, born in 1892, was from Minsk, Russia. Don't know much about the Taves & would like to talk to you about them. Please see my other reply to you for more details. Thanks, Leslie
