Re: Tavarez from Dominican Republic
I am a Tavarez, and the highest concentration of family I have is also in el Cibao. Tavarez (and its many different forms) ive heard originates from Portuguese. Which isnt impossible seeing as there were portuguese that travelled with Columbus and such.
I have a feeling you and I may be related.

Re: Tavarez from Dominican Republic
My grandfather was from Jarabacoa he was known as Pancho Estrella he used to be a millionaire and left all his property and money to his kids and wife. I heard he had 47 kids. He had 11 with my grandmother Ana Josefa Abreu. You and I MUST be related, I also heard the similar story about the changing of the last name because of Trujillo. The only person that I heard that worked in a ship trading sugar was Eduardo Tavarez my uncle. He disappeared on a ship January 19th 1977. The ships name was Ukola and it transported sugar to Texas from Dom. Rep. There is a chance you and I might be cousins. If you want get in contact with me and I will give you more information.
