My name is S'leta Ward and I'm trying to locate information on my grandfather Edward Robert Tavares and his family history as far back as I can go. Edward was born in Spokane, WA. on 6/30/1903. He married my grandmother Rose Marie Chrapusta (she was from Hammond, Indiana). My grandfather was the son of Joseph Souza Tavares (born in Portugal) and Mary Isabel Brum (also born in Portugal). Joseph came to the United States while in his twenties and Mary Isabel Brum came later (not sure of her age, late teens, maybe 16 to 18). Joseph and Mary were married and had Anthony, Edward (my grandfather) and Elsie. The Tavares' moved from Spokane, WA. around 1908 to Sebastopol, CA.

My grandfather married my grandmother Rose Marie Chrapusta in Sebastopol on May 24 (I don't know the year). My grandfather Edward was married once before my grandmother to ? and had a daughter, Evelyn.

I am very interested in filling in all the blanks, when did Joseph and Mary come to the United States, on what ship did they arrive, how long did it take them to get here, did any of their other family from Portugal come too? Who were Joseph and Mary's parents, when were they born, what did they do?

Any information would be appreciated. Please send to RndSenterprises@aol.com (S'leta Foxworthy Ward)
Thank You

Curious, I've been trying to put some pieces together as well. No one is certain of the root of the name BRUM.

Did you learn anything?

I am BRUM from my father's side and have TAVARES relatives on my mother's side (SOUSA). The families are all from the Azores, Portugal.

Let me know!
:)

Hi there BRASIL!

I don't know if I could help you with where in Portugal your family may live/have lived. However, I am currently living in Miami, Florida and was born in Rhode Island. There are MANY Portuguese in R.I. & Massachusetts. I mean MANY. All of the Tavares families I know have migrated from the Azores Islands, as did my family. St. Miguel mostly. Does that help?

Where do you live in Brazil?

Nice hearing from you.

Write back! I would love to chat with someone as inquisitive as I!!!

Hi Beverly,
I'm not sure if you still are on here, but I thought I would give it a try.

My grandfather is Manuel Tavares, Arthur Travers was his brother. I only have 7 of the siblings in my research - George Tavares, Grace Tavares (Manuel's twin sister), Mary Tavares, William Travers, Joseph Tavares, Manuel, and Arthur.

The information that I have for their parents:
Father - Joseph Tavares (born 1889), Mother - Laurentina or Laurentine? Not sure which.

My grandfather is still living, moved to Jacksonville, FL something like 20-25 years ago.

If you have any more information, please let me know!

Thanks,
Crystal Tavares
